Change Log – 8/23/12

Quarterbacks

Running Backs

  • Maurice Jones-Drew (-7) The longer MJD holds out the more I sour on his 2012 prospects.
  • Doug Martin (+2) Starting to dig the rookie more and more.
  • Isaac Redman (-4) The potential return of Mendenhall in October and a hip injury have Redman’s stock on the decline.
  • Rashad Jennings (+8) He’ll showcase his talent if MJD continues to sit into the season.
  • Rashard Mendenhall (+28) Could return in October.
  • James Starks (-12) Turf toe and bad play aren’t a good combination.

Wide Receivers

  • Dez Bryant (+2) Slight bump as knee tendinitis is noteworthy but doesn’t negatively affect his value.
  • Miles Austin (-3) Chronic hamstring problems are a concern.
  • Pierre Garcon (+1) Becoming the favorite target of RGIII.
  • Sidney Rice (+14) Back on the field after offseason shoulder surgery.
  • Justin Blackmon (+23) Running with the first team and looking good doing it.
  • Terrell Owens (-14) Sidney Rice’s return deflates Owens’ value.
  • Austin Collie (-22) Another concussion, yikes!

Tight Ends

  • Jason Witten (-2) Will avoid surgery on his spleen but may not be ready for Week 1.
  • Greg Olsen (+2) Lack of a legitmate No. 2 wideout could lead to a big year for Olsen.

Quarterbacks

  • Matt Cassel (+1) Slight bump for Cassel who has more weapons at his disposal in 2012.
  • Jake Locker (+2) Nothing’s official but it sounds like Locker could land the starting job Week 1.

Running Backs

Wide Receivers

  • Roddy White (-1) White told his coaches, “I don’t want to be the most targeted receiver in the NFL.”
  • Robert Meachem (-6) Needs to build a better rapport with Rivers.
  • Jonathan Baldwin (+4) Benefiting from the absence of Bowe.
  • Pierre Garcon (+4) Becoming the favorite target of RGIII.

Tight Ends

  • Jason Witten (-4) Spleen injury suffered in first preseason game. Ouch!

Quarterbacks

  • David Garrard (-1) Garrard or any of the Miami QBs should not be drafted right now in redraft leagues.
  • Matt Moore (+3) Moore or any of the Miami QBs should not be drafted right now in redraft leagues.

Running Backs

  • Ryan Mathews (-6) I’m expecting Mathews will miss 1-2 games. Luckily this wasn’t a knee or ankle injury.
  • James Starks (-12) Starks has had a rough training camp and didn’t show well in the Packers first preseason game. His stock is falling.
  • Cedric Benson (+31) It appears Benson will be a Packer very soon.
  • Ronnie Brown (+23) In line to receive more work while Mathews is out.

Wide Receivers

  • Julio Jones (+1) The bandwagon is full.
  • Robert Meachem (-2) More adjustments likely to come, the more I see Chargers’ receiving corps on the field.
  • Jonathan Baldwin (+16) Baldwin is having a strong training camp.
  • Josh Gordon (+5) Another concussion for Massaquoi made fast track Gordon to the starting lineup.

Tight Ends

  • N/A

Change Log – 8/9/12

Quarterbacks

  • Mark Sanchez (-3) Tebow is likely to get his shot sooner or later.
  • Brandon Weeden (+1) We assumed but it’s now official… Weeden will start.
  • Colt McCoy (-6) McCoy’s slide continues. By the time training camp is over, I’m expecting Seneca Wallace to be the No. 2 QB.
  • Kevin Kolb (-5) Poor play in first preseason game has Kolb trending downward.

Running Backs

  • Trent Richardson (-2) Minor or not, surgery is surgery. It’s a red flag that sends Trent to the bottom of the tier. Depending on his progress, he may fall out of the tier 2 in the next update.
  • Kevin Smith (+27) Smith’s value continues to rise with Best and Leshoure on the sidelines.
  • Roy Helu (-8) Still like Helu to lead the team in fantasy production but its anyone’s guess, which one of the RBs Shanahan will play.
  • Evan Royster (+16) Shanahan’s favorite… for now.

Wide Receivers

Tight Ends

  • Robert Housler (+2) This kid would be a stud in a better offense with a better QB.

Change Log – 8/2/12

Quarterbacks

  • Colt McCoy (-5) McCoy’s slide continues. By the time training camp is over, I’m expecting Seneca Wallace to be the No. 2 QB.

Running Backs

  • Jahvid Best (-7) Best has yet to be cleared for practice.
  • Kevin Smith (+10) Smith’s value continues to rise with Best on the sideline.
  • Felix Jones (-5) Use on special teams may cut into his offensive opportunities.
  • Phillip Tanner (#96) The Cowboys’ RB3 included in the rankings.

Wide Receivers

  • Julio Jones (+4) Man crush on Julio is growing along with the idea of Atlanta’s passing attack being top 5 in the league in 2012.
  • Santonio Holmes (#26) Dropped 1 TD from his projections and moved him down to Tier 4. A revamp of the Jets passing projections is coming in the next update.
  • Braylon Edwards (+12) Edwards (SEA) has a team now, but his value is still minimal at best unless he wins a starting job.

Tight Ends

  • Kyle Rudolph (+4) The Vikes TE is becoming a bigger part of their passing attack during camp.
  • Dennis Pitta (-3) A broken hand has the Ravens TE questionable for the season opener.

Quarterbacks

  • Colt McCoy (-4) Its likely McCoy will continue to slide as his time in Cleveland appears to be coming to an end.

Running Backs

  • Robert Turbin (+6) Could be thrust into action if Lynch is suspended.
  • Bryce Brown (+21) A legitimate threat to Dion Lewis for the #2 RB in Philadelphia.
  • Dion Lewis (-4) Will face competition for backup duties behind McCoy.
  • Anthony Allen (+20) Will start camp as the RB2 but Pierce is more talented.

Wide Receivers

  • Dez Bryant (+4) Back to his initial ranking. It appears his latest off-field issues may not lead to suspension. Stay tuned.
  • Santana Moss (+7) Consistently undervalued, Moss will begin camp as the Redskins WR2.
  • Andre Roberts (+15) Penciled in as the starter opposite Fitz until rookie Michael Floyd gets up to speed.
  • Brandon Tate (+76) Whoa! Tate was swimming at the bottom of the barrel but is competing for the #2 wide receiver job in CIN with Armon Binns.

Player Projections, Rankings & Cheatsheets
Change Log – 7/19/12

Quarterbacks

  • No change and probably won’t be any significant movement until camps get in full swing.-

Running Backs

  • Marshawn Lynch (-4) – Off-field issues may lead to suspension.
  • Mark Ingram (+12) – Saints backfield with be a three-RB-committee but my initial projections for Ingram were too low.
  • Pierre Thomas (-7) – Saints backfield with be a three-RB-committee but my initial projections for Thomas were too low.
  • Mikel Leshoure (+5) – Achilles and 2-game suspension are red flags but Best is no pillar of health either.
  • Robert Turbin (+19) Could be thrust into action if Lynch is suspended.

Wide Receivers

  • Brandon Marshall (+3) – Total number of receptions were initially projected too low.
  • Dez Bryant (-4) – Off-field issues may lead to suspension.
  • Kenny Britt (-4) – Another knee surgery and another arrest… yikes.
  • Kendall Wright (+12) – The benefactor of Britt’s freefall.
  • Michael Floyd (-5) – Rookie is no sure bet to crack the starting lineup anytime soon.

Tight Ends

  • Robert Housler (+11) – Flip-flopped King and Housler. Housler is the better receiving threat.
  • Jeff King (-11) – Flip flopped King and Housler. King will be used more as a blocker in Arizona.

Change Log – 7/12/12

Quarterbacks

  • David Garrard(+5) – appears the starting job will come down to Garrard vs. Moore.
  • Ryan Tannehill(-5) – will likely get his chance late in the season.

Running Backs

  • Jonathan Stewart(+2) – settling in to my choice of Carolina RBs. Stewart’s receiving ability and use in the redzone gets the slight nod.
  • DeAngelo Williams (-1) – an ever so slight downgrade.
  • Donald Brown (+1) – a slight bump for the starting RB in Indy.
  • Rashad Jennings (+1) a slight bump for an undervalued RB.

Wide Receivers

  • Steve Smith CAR (-3) – Initial ranking was a little to high for the veteran.
  • Randy Moss (+5) – looking like the starter opposite Crabtree.
  • Rueben Randle (+16) – Will battle Hixon for the #3 receiver position.

Tight Ends

  • Jacob Tamme (-1) – Could be more of a TE by committee in DEN.
  • Joel Dreessen (+5) – Could be more of a TE by committee in DEN.
