|Raiders waive Trent Richardson|
Carried 15 times for 42 yards in preseason action

FFToday's Take: Richardson was once considered the best back to come out of the draft since Adrian Peterson when Cleveland made him the No. 3 overall selection in 2012. Since that time, the former Alabama standout has done virtually nothing to justify that draft pick and even showed up in Oakland overweight when many speculated the Raiders might be his final shot at a NFL gig. He was released in the first wave of cuts, meaning Latavius Murray, Roy Helu and Michael Dyer each soundly outperformed him.
|Roy Helu Jr. returns to practice|
Del Rio not handing him a role just yet
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Aug 26, 9:00 pm
|Running back Roy Helu Jr. returned to practice Wednesday after missing most of training camp. Helu has missed all but a couple of days of training camp with a hamstring injury. He was expected to be the team’s third-down running back, but Del Rio wasn’t in the mood to give him that title Wednesday.
“Right now, he’s got to create a role,” Del Rio said. “Right now, he’s been on the shelf and been unable to do anything for us.”
FFToday's Take: Roy Helu (hamstring) has plenty of upside in the new look Oakland offense. Once up to full speed he'll be competing for carries against starter Latavius Murray and Trent Richardson. Murray has not proved himself over a full slate of games and Trent Richardson has been underwhelming in each of the past two seasons. Helu's pass-catching skills make him a natural fit for third down snaps. Consider him a late round flier in PPR leagues and somebody to keep an eye on in standard scoring.

GM: "He can do it all"
By: Doug Orth | Thu Aug 6, 4:25 pm
|Latavius Murray, who missed his rookie season in 2013 with a foot injury, had some highlight-reel runs last season and started the last three games. But new head coach Jack Del Rio still brought in Trent Richardson to compete with Murray for the starting job. Richardson has missed the first week of training camp with an injury, and Murray isn’t looking back.
He is getting all of the first-team reps and has looked powerful, especially in a scrimmage late in Wednesday afternoon’s practice in Napa. (San Francisco Chronicle)|
FFToday's Take: GM Reggie McKenzie said, "If he could stay healthy, nothing is holding him back ... he can do it all.” Murray is a size-speed specimen that could see his ADP skyrocket during the preseason. Roy Helu appears to be his main competition at the moment, especially since Trent Richardson was just activated from the active/NFI list on Wednesday.
