2017 Outlook
Depth Chart
I pegged Rudolph as a likely TE1 last year at this time, but never imagined he'd lead all tight ends in targets and finish as the No.3 overall. Rudolph can thank his strong season to several factors that worked in his favor. First, the Vikings dreadful offensive line and non-existent running game meant Rudolph was the ultimate dump off target for Sam "checkdown" Bradford. Rudolph also stayed healthy for the entire year, something he's struggled with at times in his career. Although he's an athletic, sure-handed athlete, Rudolph is a miserable blocker, and ran routes a majority of the time he was on the field. He was the de facto slot-receiver for much of the year, and a clear favorite of Sam Bradford.

While the stars aligned for Rudolph's success in 2016, I foresee it being quite difficult to do so in 2017. First off, the Vikings offense should be more balanced and operational than it was last year, and Rudolph shouldn't have to be the security blanket for Bradford as much as he was last year. While he still presents mismatches at times, he doesn't possess elite physical tools to dominate a defense. He reminds me a lot of former Steelers tight end Heath Miller; solid pass receiver, but not someone who's going to jump off the page. Rudolph should remain active in the redzone, but more talent in the backfield, and healthier passing game options, I think Rudolph falls back into the pack and sets up more as an uninspiring low-end TE1 option.

Injury Kyle Rudolph fighting through sore ankle
Played on sprained ankle final three weeks of season
By: Doug Orth | Mon Jan 1, 7:05 pm

Minnesota Vikings
Vikings TE Kyle Rudolph has played three games on a sprained right ankle. He’s finally about to get some extra rest. Rudolph was in a walking boot after playing just 28 snaps in Minnesota’s 23-10 victory over Chicago at U.S. Bank Stadium. The Vikings earned a first-round playoff bye as the NFC’s No. 2 seed, and he expects to feel a lot better when they next play Jan. 14 on their home field. (St. Paul Pioneer Press)

FFToday's Take: The Vikings' first-round bye comes at a good time, and it's obvious the ankle was a major factor in his slow finish as he played only 56 snaps combined in Week 16 and 17. If the week off allows him to move closer to 100 percent, he should resume being Minnesota's top option in the red zone. With Minnesota among the favorites to make the Super Bowl, he should be among the more popular tight ends in non-DFS playoff leagues.

Injury Kyle Rudolph upgraded to questionable
Vikings tight end missed practice all week
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Dec 16, 12:15 pm

Minnesota Vikings
Kyle Rudolph has been upgraded to questionable from doubtful for tomorrow's game against the Bengals. (Vikings on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Rudolph missed practice all week with an ankle injury and was listed as Doubtful on Friday. The upgrade suggests he has a chance to play against the Bengals tomorrow. He obviously won't be 100 percent if he plays, but given the ugliness of the tight end position, he would be a viable play in Week 15.

Minnesota Vikings
Zimmer says Kyle Rudolph out and Riley Reiff has a chance of playing. (Chris Tomasson on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Rudolph missed practice this week with an ankle injury and will not suit up against the Bengals. David Morgan will fill in at the position and be a TE2 streaming option in Week 15.

Injury Kyle Rudolph misses practice Thursday

Minnesota Vikings
Xavier Rhodes and Emmanuel Lamur back at practice on Thursday. Mackensie Alexander, Kyle Rudolph, Riley Reiff and Blake Bell still not practicing. (Ben Goessling on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Rudolph is dealing with an ankle injury and missed practice Wednesday as well. At this point, Rudolph owners should have plan B in place in case the Vikings tight end can't go against the Bengals. David Morgan and Bell are next up on the TE depth chart but aren't realistic fantasy considerations.
