 MJD ready for training camp? -- Tue Jun 18 1:00 pm --
Weight and foot still an issue | There understandably has been some teeth-gnashing among fans and observers over whether Maurice Jones-Drew's foot, weight or both will remain an issue come the regular season. Jaguars General Manager David Caldwell said last week the plan is for Jones-Drew to be 100 percent when camp opens July 26. (Jaguars.com)
FF Today's Take: On top of the rehab is MJD's off-field incident which has yet to be resolved. Sticking to the field, it's worrisome to fantasy owners that MJD hasn't been able to do much conditioning after foot surgery. For what it's worth, MJD had microfracture surgery and came back to lead the league in rushing in 2011.

Team and player unsure of every-down role | Maurice Jones-Drew hasn’t practiced this offseason because of his late December foot surgery. That’s not a surprise, given the rehabilitation schedule and the team’s expectations. But another key question for Jones-Drew is his confidence level for being ready to play an every-down role. The Jaguars no doubt discussed other plans. One of those should include adding another experienced running back. After Justin Forsett, there is minimal tailback experience. Denard Robinson and De’Leon Eskridge are rookies while Jonathan Grimes and Jordan Todman have a combined five NFL carries. The Jaguars worked out Beanie Wells last week, but he has medical concerns. FF Today's Take: Both the Jags and MJD cost themselves 2-3 months of recovery time by delaying his surgery, but he has also stated that he no longer feels pain in the surgically-repaired foot. Robinson is easily the most talented of the reserve backs, although the former college quarterback was expected to be more of a gadget-type player in 2013 as he made the switch to a different position. Forsett and Grimes probably have the best shot at fantasy value in should MJD be slowed by his foot at any point.

Jags running back cooperating with police | St. Augustine, Fla., police said in an amended news release Tuesday afternoon that Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew has not been charged with misdemeanor battery, as it had earlier said was the case in a news release, and is cooperating with police in their investigation of an incident at a restaurant in the city. FF Today's Take: MJD maintains he is innocent while the investigation is ongoing. Unless charges are filed this situation will likely have no affect on his playing status.

Jags RB accused of striking security guard with a closed fist | Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew has been charged with battery after allegedly KO'ing a security guard at the Conch House in St. Augustine, FL. According to the police report obtained by TMZ, MJD is accused of striking the security guard with a closed fist on the guard's left cheek, knocking him out.

FF Today's Take: No comment from MJD or the Jaguars as of yet. We'll wait to find out if this incident has any impact on his playing status for the upcoming season.

Jaguars RB recovering from Lisfranc fracture | The Jacksonville Jaguars running back (Maurice Jones-Drew) is on the mend from a season-ending Lisfranc fracture in his left foot and told NFL Network, "I'm feeling good." "I just got back to Jacksonville a couple weeks ago from school, just have been rehabbing every day and getting used to the offseason program," Jones-Drew said in an interview on Thursday's "NFL Total Access." "I'll be back at full speed by probably the end of May, beginning of June. (NFL.com)
FF Today's Take: MJD missed all but 6 weeks last season and is expected to be Jacksonville's workhorse in the backfield in 2013. Given the timetable, he should be a full participant in the Jaguars training camp.
