Despite dealing with a lingering knee injury last season and watching Rashad Jennings develop into a legitimate backup, MJD remained productive, gaining 1,323 yards on the ground to go along with 317 receiving yards and seven total touchdowns. It’s hard to complain about 14.7 fantasy points per game, but that represented a drop-off from his first full season as a starter in 2009 when he averaged 17.0 points per game. The drop-off was the result of both his missing two games with injuries and Jennings’ occasional short-yardage work. The issue for MJD in 2011 will be his recovery from offseason surgery to repair a torn meniscus. He apparently was cleared to begin running in mid-June, but he has stated that he has been running since early April. The mixed signals are a bit of a red flag. If healthy, he’s a lock to finish in the top ten at running back, so monitor his injury status and adjust accordingly.
Jags hire Mularkey-- Wed Jan 11 7:47 am -- Offensive success hinges on development of Gabbert
Mike Mularkey will be the fourth head coach in Jacksonville Jaguars history, sources told the Times-Union on Tuesday night.(Florida Times-Union)
FF Today's Take:Jacksonville was clearly looking for a gifted offensive-minded coach to replace Jack Del Rio and Mularkey's work with Matt Ryan in Atlanta was a key reason why he was chosen. Mularkey will need to develop Blaine Gabbert and figure out a way to take some of the load off of Maurice Jones-Drew in 2012. Meanwhile, former Jags Interim coach Mel Tucker's future with the team is unknown as he has been linked to the Vikings defensive coordinator position.
Maurice Jones-Drew held out of practice-- Thu Dec 29 5:55 pm -- Ankle injury little concern for Jaguars fans
FF Today's Take:There is no way that MJD will miss Sunday's game - he is currently #1 in league rushing and has a gtreat chance of finishing on top with a strong performance. Start Jones-Drew as a Top 5 RB option this week.
Maurice Jones-Drew limited-- Thu Dec 22 6:27 pm -- Ankle injury forces Jags RB to rest Thursday
FF Today's Take:No worries here - MJD is just resting ahead of his Week 16 game against Tennessee
Thomas ruled out for Thursday nighter-- Wed Dec 14 10:00 pm -- Jags WR still dealing with concussion
Jacksonville wide receiver Mike Thomas was one of five Jaguars players ruled out for Thursday night's matchup with the Atlanta Falcons, leaving the Jaguars even more short-handed for their final national television game this season. (NFL.com)
FF Today's Take:Expect a healthy dosage of Maurice Jones-Drew again in the Jaguars' play calling this week. The diminutive, tackle-dodging specialist has totaled a whopping 281 rushing yards, 209 receiving yards and five touchdowns over his last three games.
Gabbert shown bench, remains starter-- Sun Nov 27 10:46 pm -- McCown provides a small spark, then comes up empty
Del Rio benched Gabbert in the fourth quarter of the 20-13 loss to Houston on Sunday and put McCown in, hoping he would give the offense a spark. But McCown failed to connect with Mike Thomas and the Jaguars fell short again.
Del Rio said “Blaine’s our starting quarterback,’’ but left himself with plenty of wiggle room when he added, “Until I tell you otherwise.’’
(Florida Times-Union)
FF Today's Take:Gabbert's benching is just another reason why fantasy owners should not trust any part of the Jacksonville offense outside of Maurice Jones-Drew.
