Linehan on Tavon Austin: "He's a receiver first"
Cowboys "receiver" will also be used in backfield
By: Mike Krueger | Sat May 12, 10:00 pm

Dallas Cowboys
"We'll use him for a lot of things, but he's a receiver first," Linehan said. "He's really, in a lot of ways, some of his skill set is as an outside receiver, which is really unique, but he can move around the slot. He can certainly have carries as well as catches from those positions. He can move in the backfield at times - he's done that his whole career - and if we get a matchup he can run a route that is typically run by a running back. (Sportsday)

FFToday's Take: There's been recent discussion that Tavon Austin would be seeing the majority of his snaps at running back, but offensive coordinator Scott Linehan suggests that Austin will work primarily as a receiver. The Cowboys are looking for bodies to fill the hole in the offense left by Dez Bryant and Jason Witten. While Austin will help in that regard, its difficult to envision him being any kind of consistent fantasy performer.

Jason Witten retiring from NFL
Will join MNF broadcast
By: Mike Krueger | Thu May 3, 8:00 am

Dallas Cowboys
Jason Witten is retiring from the Dallas Cowboys and joining ESPN as an analyst for Monday Night Football, multiple sources told ESPN on Thursday. He has informed owner and general manager Jerry Jones and coach Jason Garrett of his decision. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: News of Witten's retirement broke last week, but the Cowboys tight end has been contemplating his decision ever since. Witten will join the Monday Night Football broadcast and leave a vacant hole at the tight end position for the Cowboys. The Cowboys drafted tight end Dalton Schultz this past weekend and currently have Geoff Swaim, Rico Gathers, and Blake Jarwin (UDFA) on the depth chart.

Jason Witten headed to broadcast booth
Will join ESPN's Monday Night Football broadcast team
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Apr 27, 12:30 pm

Dallas Cowboys
Jason Witten is planning to retire after 15 years to join ESPN's new Monday Night Football broadcast team as a lead analyst but will meet today with owner Jerry Jones before making his decision final, per sources. (Chris Mortensen on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Witten played his entire career in Dallas since coming into the league in 2003. He posted four 1000-yard seasons (2007,2009,2010,2012) and finished as the top fantasy tight end in 2007 and 2010. His longevity and consistency will likely land him in the Hall of Fame.
