Felix Jones limited in practice -- Thu Dec 29 5:50 pm --
Hamstring likely won't keep Cowboys RB out this week |
Felix Jones (hamstring) was limited again in Thursday's practice.
(Fort Worth Star-Telegram)
FF Today's Take: Cowboys running back Felix Jones didn't say much Thursday, but a thumbs-up was his indicatation that he'll be fine for Sunday's game against the Giants. "Feeling good; I'm feeling good," Jones said as he left the lunch room for the training room for treatment. Jones appears safe to start as a borderline RB1 this week against the Giants.

Felix Jones to start Sunday -- Tue Dec 27 6:30 pm --
Hamstring doesn't seem to be an issue for Cowboys RB |
The Cowboys feel confident that Felix Jones can start Sunday night at the Giants and not be limited. (Dallas Morning News)
FF Today's Take: While Jones was in the game against the Eagles on Saturday, he looked sharp. He showed his usual burst and made sharp cuts, running for 24 yards on four carries. He was only in on 8 to 10 plays against Philadelphia but is good to go as a decent RB2 against the Giants in the biggest game on the schedule this weekend.

Cowboys RB Felix Jones questionable -- Fri Dec 23 7:45 pm --
After sitting out all week with hamstring strain |
Cowboys running back Felix Jones is listed as questionable for Saturday's game against Philadelphia after missing practice all week because of hamstring tightness. The NFC East-leading Cowboys had said during the week that they were being cautious with Jones, who is coming off consecutive 100-yard rushing games after the season-ending ankle injury to rookie DeMarco Murray. Sammy Morris, a 12-year NFL veteran who was signed with Dallas and made his season debut last week, would start if Jones doesn't play.
(SI)
FF Today's Take: The 24-year-old torched the Eagles for 7.4 yards per carry the last time he faced them but Jones' owners will need to be patient with his playing status, possibly right up until the 4:15pm ET kickoff on Sunday.

Felix Jones misses practice Wednesday -- Wed Dec 21 5:40 pm --
Cowboys RB battling tight hamstring |
Cowboys running back Felix Jones wasn't at practice again Wednesday. Jones, coming off consecutive 100-yard rushing games for the first time in his four NFL seasons, is dealing with hamstring tightness. He was officially listed as out by the team after also missing Tuesday's session. Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones expressed confidence that Felix Jones will play against the Eagles on Saturday and said the team is being cautious because it is so thin at running back. (NFL.com)
FF Today's Take: Jones has given the Cowboys some consistency at the running back position after the loss of rookie DeMarco Murray. The Eagles are surrendering an average of 113.7 rushing yards against per game this season, so consider this a somewhat favorable match-up for Jones if he is able to suit up.

Felix Jones held out of practice -- Tue Dec 20 7:05 pm --
Cowboys RB dealing with slight hamstring injury |
Jason Garrett just told the media that Felix Jones has a tight hamstring and hopes to have him back on Wednesday. (Bryan Broaddus on Twitter)
FF Today's Take: Coach Jason Garrett sounds confident that Jones will be back to practice on Wednesday but as we all know, hamstrings are a tough injury. The Dallas Morning News does insist that Jones' missed practice was "strictly as a precaution," . Although it sounds nothing but positive, this situation requires monitoring. Check the late-week injury reports to be sure Jones is healthy for Sasturday.

Murray on IR, Boys sign Morris -- Tue Dec 13 1:00 pm --
 Cowboys shuffle running backs |
Sammy Morris is officially a member of the Dallas Cowboys. Morris, 34, played 11 years in Buffalo, Miami and New England but has not played this year after getting cut by the Patriots in training camp. He had a workout with Kansas City this season.
To make room for Morris, the ex-Texas Tech running back, the Cowboys placed rookie running back DeMarco Murray on injured reserve because of an ankle injury suffered Sunday against the New York Giants that requires surgery. (ESPN)
FF Today's Take: Felix Jones will get the start this week and has a plus matchup against the Buccaneers. Morris will spell Jones and should receive 5-10 touches.

DeMarco Murray likely done for season -- Mon Dec 12 12:10 am --
 Fractured ankle |
The Dallas Cowboys' DeMarco Murray was forced from Sunday night's game against the New York Giants after suffering a right ankle fracture and high ankle sprain, likely ending his season.
Fractures typically take 6-8 weeks to heal, and the Cowboys have three games remaining in the regular season after Sunday.
(ESPN Dallas)
FF Today's Take: A devastating blow for the Cowboys and fantasy owners alike. The rookie had slowed down after a great six-game run, but was doing a wonderful job at bringing balance to the Dallas offense. With Phillip Tanner already on IR, the team will bring in another RB since Felix Jones is the only healthy RB left on the roster. Jones will be the bellcow going forward.

Miles Austin returns to practice -- Wed Dec 7 1:13 pm --
Has missed last four games with hamstring injury |
IRVING, Texas -- For the first time since Nov. 5, receiver Miles Austin is taking part in a practice for the Dallas Cowboys. (ESPNDallas.com)
FF Today's Take: Earlier this year Dallas decided to ease Felix Jones back into the mix on offense after missing several weeks and Miles Austin may be treated similarly if he returns for week 14. Laurent Robinson figures to see his targets decrease if Austin does return this week but still warrants consideration as a flex option in deeper formats.

Murray will get bulk of the workload -- Wed Nov 23 10:31 am --
Felix Jones will be worked into the mix |
Garrett said that he still wants to get Jones touches in games and will mix him in when he can, though Murray will continue to receive the bulk of the workload. Garrett said the way he uses Jones in games is decided by a combination of his game plan going in and an in-game feel for the best time to call his number. (Dallas Morning News)
FF Today's Take: DeMarco Murray netted 31 touches in week 12 and has emerged as a solid fantasy running back moving forward. However, Garrett's comments make Felix Jones a complete wild card for fantasy owners in the near term. The Cowboys appear to favor Jones in pass protection, but that doesn't always translate into touches for his fantasy owners. There will be games when Dallas gives Felix enough chances to be a serviceable RB3 but his production from week to week is likely to remain inconsistent.

RB Felix Jones returns to practice -- Wed Nov 16 12:43 pm --
 High ankle sprain |
IRVING -- Felix Jones returned to practice Wednesday for the first time since he suffered a sprained left ankle in the Cowboys 20-16 loss to New England on Oct. 16. With Jones back in the fold, the Cowboys will have to figure out how they want to adjust Jones' role in the coming days. After all, he was the team's primary tailback before he suffered his latest setback in an injury-plagued career. (Dallas Morning News)
FF Today's Take: DeMarco Murray will lose carries with Jones back in the picture, however it is likely that the Cowboys will ease Jones back into the mix on offense. For now, consider Murray the best Dallas fantasy running back and monitor the touches moving forward.

DeMarco Murray to remain lead back -- Tue Nov 15 6:35 pm --
Felix Jones to return as backup to rookie RB |
The Dallas Cowboys expect Felix Jones to return Sunday after a four-game absence, but not as the team's primary running back. (ESPN Dallas)
FF Today's Take: No surprise here! Murray has averaged 150.2 rushing yards per game while breaking off 8.01 yards per carry and has definitely earned that starting role for Dallas. Murray owners rejoice - Felix Jones is only a minor threat to Murray's touches.

Jerry Jones envisions RBBC -- Mon Nov 14 9:46 am --
Murray's success will not unseat Jones upon return |
DeMarco Murray has performed at a level over the past four weeks that warrants a starting job on nearly every team in the league, not just the Dallas Cowboys.
But after another dominant performance by the rookie in Sunday's blowout win over the Bills, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones made it clear that Murray's ascension doesn't spell doom for Felix Jones, the former starter who is approaching a return from an ankle injury. "I’m anxious," the owner said, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. "I told Felix after the game, 'Boy, am I anxious to see them both in there together.' I know we have a coach that knows how to figure on having them both in there at the same time."
(NFL.com)
FF Today's Take: Felix Jones will still have fantasy value upon his return, fantasy owners just don't know how much. It is clear Jerry Jones is expecting HC Jason Garrett to utilize Jones, DeMarco Murray and Phillip Tanner in a RBBC. How the touches are distributed remains unknown but it could spell fantasy doom for all three running backs.

Jones and Austin out for the Cowboys -- Sat Nov 12 12:30 pm --
And LB Sean Lee listed as questionable |
Running back Felix Jones will miss his fourth consecutive game. He said Friday his high left ankle sprain is not ready yet, and the Cowboys have ruled him out of Sunday’s game. Jones has missed the past three games with the injury. In Jones’ absence, rookie DeMarco Murray has run for 466 yards. Receiver Miles Austin (hamstring) and cornerback Mike Jenkins (hamstring) also will not play this week. Right guard Kyle Kosier (foot), linebacker Sean Lee (wrist) and punter Mat McBriar (foot) are questionable. (Fort Worth Star-Telegram)
FF Today's Take: Murray has certainly flourished in Jones' absence, and will likely see little or no reduction in carries when the veteran eventually returns from his ankle injury. Austin's hamstring injury will give wide receiver Laurent Robinson an ideal opportunity to have another productive game this weekend. He's totaled 135 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns in his past two games.
