2014 Outlook
Depth Chart
An offseason contract holdout – which occurred during the same time that he made news for the unique way he parks his Ferrari, mind you – has some skeptics questioning Marshawn Lynch's commitment to playing football, but there haven't been many backs as consistent as “Beast Mode” since he arrived in Seattle back in 2010. In each of his past three seasons, Lynch has surpassed 1,200 yards on the ground while scoring double-digit touchdowns in each of those seasons. Combine that with the fact that he has only lost five fumbles over that span and you have a player who most would believe is very safe in his role within the Seahawks' Super Bowl-winning offense. That might not be the case, however, as reports from camp have been that the team is looking to find ways to get 2013 second-round draft pick Christine Michael on the field more often this season. If there is one area where Lynch has not been superb, it has been in the pass-catching department. His 36 receptions in 2013 were his highest total since 2008 and he had failed to reach even 30 receptions during between those years. Still, Lynch has to be considered one of the safest bets to be a top-10 running back this season. Seattle does seem committed on passing the ball more often, but that could still mean 275-plus touches for Lynch.

Comment: Lynch (holdout) is unlikely to get a new deal, but is likely to see Christine Michael vulture a few carries.

Marshawn Lynch cleared by police
Seahwaks RB was in hotel room at time of incident
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Aug 14, 7:00 am

Seattle Seahawks
Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch has been cleared of any involvement in an assault and property damage accusation, the Bellevue, Washington, police department said Wednesday night. The Seahawks called the accusation "bogus" in a one-sentence statement Tuesday. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Lynch was under investigation for an assault and battery claim but wasn't even at the scene. He was in the team hotel room at the time of the incident. Nothing to see here. Lynch remains a back-end Round 1 fantasy running back.

Marshawn Lynch may play Friday
First game since ending holdout
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Aug 13, 2:08 pm

Seattle Seahawks
Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said during an appearance on KJR-AM this morning that tailback Marshawn Lynch may play Friday in the team’s second preseason game against the San Diego Chargers. “You may see a little bit of Marshawn in this game,” Carroll said. “We”ll see how this week wraps up.” (Seattle Times)

FFToday's Take: Marshawn Lynch probably won't see too many carries against the Chargers if he does play. Nonetheless, it is a good sign to see him in shape and ready to get after it on the field after holding out. 'Beast Mode' is also being investigated over allegations of a potential assault this past weekend but police have not formally linked the Seahawks running back to the incident. Fantasy owners should certainly check back for updates but for now he remains a first round investment on draft day.

Seahawks call Lynch allegations "bogus"
Police investigation continues
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Aug 12, 5:15 pm

Seattle Seahawks
Allegations of assault and personal property damage made against star running back Marshawn Lynch are “bogus,” the Seahawks said Tuesday. “While we maintain the utmost respect for the investigative process, after speaking with Marshawn, we are comfortable these accusations are bogus,’’ the statement read. (Seattle Times)

FFToday's Take: Lynch was reportedly being investigated yesterday for an incident that allegedly occurred early Sunday morning. At this point there is no real information about Lynch's involvement and thus no reason to panic. The investigation by police continues.

Marshawn Lynch under investigation
Alleged assault and personal property damage
By: Doug Orth | Mon Aug 11, 4:30 pm

Seattle Seahawks
Bellevue police officers are investigating Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch after receiving an “allegation of an assault and personal property damage” from a female victim at a Bellevue apartment, according to a news release from the department. According to police, the alleged incident was reported to have occurred early Sunday morning, but “no domestic violence or sexual assault was involved in the allegation.” Bellevue police have assigned the case to a detective and it is under investigation. (Seattle Times)

FFToday's Take: Lynch doesn't exactly have a spotless off-field record, so owners shouldn't dismiss this report until the authorities do the same. Likely in his final season with the Seahawks, any missed time by Lynch would result in a spike of playing time - and fantasy stock - for Christine Michael and Robert Turbin.

Lynch to end holdout, report to camp
Will not receive a new deal
By: Doug Orth | Thu Jul 31, 5:45 pm

Seattle Seahawks
Seattle Seahawks RB Marshawn Lynch will end his holdout and will report to training camp shortly, league sources said. The holdout has lasted eight days so far. Lynch will not be receiving the new deal and added money he sought, but Seattle is expected to add some financial concessions to his contract, sources said. (ABC News)

FFToday's Take: Lynch is in the third year of a four-year, $30 million deal. With Christine Michael and, to a lesser extent Robert Turbin and Spencer Ware, in reserve, Lynch had virtually no leverage and may be coming around to the realization that the Seahawks will likely be moving on from him after this season.

Lynch expected to holdout of training camp
Seahwaks set to begin camp on Friday
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Jul 24, 7:10 pm

Seattle Seahawks
When the Seahawks begin training camp tomorrow, running back Marshawn Lynch is expected to be absent. That’s according to former Seahawk Michael Robinson, who is now a commentator on the NFL Network and said on-air moments ago that Lynch will hold out. “Marshawn Lynch just called me, we just talked,” Robinson said. “He said he will be holding out from training camp this year with the Seahawks.” (Seattle Times)

FFToday's Take: Lynch has two years left on his deal and is set to make $5 million this season and $5.5 million in 2015. He skipped OTAs but reported to minicamp in June. Given his reasonable salary and the depth of players behind him (Christine Michael & Robert Turbin), it's hard to imagine the Seahawks caving to his demands.

Marshawn Lynch arrives at mini-camp
Seahawks RB still wants a new deal
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Jun 17, 1:10 pm

Seattle Seahawks
The will-he, won’t-he? Marshawn Lynch debate has ended for now. The Seahawks running back reported for the team’s mandatory mini-camp Tuesday, putting to rest any ideas that he would hold out because he wants changes to his contract. Lynch apparently still would like some changes to his contract, which has two years remaining. (Seattle Times)

FFToday's Take: Lynch is avoiding fines by showing up but still wants to re-negotiate his deal. We'll see what happens in the coming weeks, but it would be unlikely for Seattle to give a veteran running back more than the $10.5 million he's already owed over the next two seasons.

Marshawn Lynch to skip Seahawks minicamp?
Reasoning unclear
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Jun 12, 7:00 am

Seattle Seahawks
When the Seattle Seahawks convene for mandatory minicamp next week, the team doesn't expect star running back Marshawn Lynch to be there, according to sources familiar with the team's thinking. Lynch reportedly hasn't appeared at any of the team's voluntary organized team activities (OTAs) thus far, is thought to be unhappy with his contract, though it's not clear if that is the only football-related reason the running back is considering skipping or reporting late to minicamp. (Yahoo Sports)

FFToday's Take: Lynch is set to earn $5 million this season and $5.5 million in 2015. He's skipped voluntary workouts before but has never missed a mandatory session in his career. It's hard to comment on this topic until we understand Lynch's reasoning, but he's not likely to get a renegotiated deal considering the league-wide decline in running back salaries. Perhaps he's miffed at the prospect of Christine Michael eating into his workload.

SEA to use running back by committee in 2014
OC has high praise for Christine Michael
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Jun 4, 11:00 pm

Seattle Seahawks
Bevell had high praise for the play so far of Christine Michael saying “we are really excited right now, what he’s done” and noted that Michael has improved particularly at “the details” of the position. Bevell also said that Michael could have a greater role this season and that could lead to having more of a “running back by committee” approach in 2014. (Seattle Times)

FFToday's Take: Speaking at an event Wednesday night, Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell dropped the RBBC term on a select group of fans. If this statement holds true, it will have a significant impact on Marshawn Lynch's fantasy stock. Lynch has been a workhorse for the Seahawks the last three seasons, averaging 300 carries and 11 touchdowns during that span. Michael is a must-handcuff for any Lynch owner.
