Beanie Wells, Steelers don't ink deal -- Fri Mar 15 3:35 pm --
Pittsburgh likely scared off by RB's knee injury | When the Arizona Cardinals released Beanie Wells last weekend, it was reportedly in part because they were not optimistic about the state of his right knee. The Pittsburgh Steelers hosted Wells for a Friday visit, but a signing isn't likely to be forthcoming. One source tells the Post-Gazette that Wells was found to have a "bad wheel." Although Wells did miss lose half of the 2012 season to a turf toe injury, it's a good bet that the knee is the "wheel" in question. Still just 24 years old, Wells has plenty of time to salvage what has been a disappointing career since being drafted 31st overall in 2009. A signing may be on hold, though, until his troublesome knee shows signs of returning to full health later in the offseason. (NFL.com)
FF Today's Take: Knee injuries are a running back's worst nightmare, and Wells could be in tough to find a team willing to take on the risky proposition of signing him. As for the Steelers, their backfield remains a bit of a question mark. They still have Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman, but it should come as no surprise if Pittsburgh targets a running back in one of the first few rounds at the upcoming draft.
| | Dwyer, Redman get tendered -- Tue Mar 12 12:15 pm --
Steelers can now match any offer received in free agency | The Pittsburgh Steelers have tendered offers to four restricted free agents, including running backs Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman along with wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders. The offers give the Steelers the right to match any offer sheet the players may receive from other teams during free agency. Dwyer has already signed his sixth-round tender, worth $1.323 million. (ESPN)
FF Today's Take: With Rashard Mendenhall exiting via free agency, Dwyer and Redman will likely share duties at running back for the Steelers in 2013 unless the Steelers pursue a free agent running back or address the position in the draft. This is a fantasy situation will have more clarity by the time training camp comes around in late July.
