Game Preview
Mike Krueger

Predicted Score: Seahawks 23, Bears 20

Chicago: At 4-5 the Bears are in a fight for their season trailing the Lions and Packers in the NFC North and once again find themselves with Rex Grossman as their starting quarterback. Grossman replaced Brian Griese last week (shoulder) and led Chicago to a 17-6 victory over the Raiders. Rex finished 7-for-14 for 142 yards and a touchdown with no turnovers. However, scoring 17 points against the Raiders isn't cause for excitement and Bears' fans will soon realize why they were calling Grossman's head earlier this season. His 6 interceptions, 1 touchdown, and 52% completion rate over the first three weeks of the season did happen and hasn't been cured by spending six weeks on the bench. I expect a good effort but a close loss and a loss that will close the lid on this season for Chicago.

  • Start: RB Cedric Benson
  • Consider: WR Bernard Berrian, TE Desmond Clark, WR Muhsin Muhammad, K Robbie Gould, TE Greg Olsen, Bears D/ST
  • Sit: QB Brian Griese, WR Devin Hester

Seattle: Mike Holmgren announced to the world he was going to throw the ball and being true to his word, the Seahawks came out slinging last week throwing 11 times in their first 13 plays. Matt Hasselbeck finished with 278 yards and 2 TDs… his fourth consecutive game with at least 2 touchdowns. Maurice Morris replaced the injured Shaun Alexander and carried the ball 28 times for 87 yards and 1 score. That kind of workload for Morris will not happen every week as Seattle found itself in a position to run out the clock against San Francisco who could generate nothing on offense. The Bears defense ranks in the bottom third of the league and doesn't pose the threat they used to. Expect Hasselbeck to take advantage with modest numbers from Morris and the rushing game. Keep an eye on Deion Branch's availability… he is practicing this week and could be in the starting lineup.

  • Start: QB Matt Hasselbeck, RB Maurice Morris, WR Bobby Engram, K Josh Brown
  • Consider: WR Nate Burleson, WR D.J. Hackett
  • Sit: WR Deion Branch, RB Shaun Alexander, Seahawks D/ST, TE Marcus Pollard
