Justin Fields

Justin Fields vs DAL

At about 22.5 points per game, Fields is a weekly start at QB, especially this week against a historically bad Dallas defense. The complete lack of pass rush, and thin secondary will make the Cowboy defense a unit to target for the rest of the season. They have yielded a league high 1,237 passing yards, and the most fantasy points to the position. Fields’s rushing upside combined with the passing game matchup puts him on the fringe of the top-5 at the position.

Sam Darnold vs TB

I fully believed Darnold was a product of coaching and scheme last season in Minnesota, but he’s been rock steady for the Seahawks. With byes and injuries decimating the position this week, Darnold is worth a look against a Tampa defense that defends the run (top-5) much more effectively than the pass (bottom-10). If you are looking for a mid-floor, low ceiling stop gap, Darnold is worth snatching off waivers for a spot start.

Jared Goff @ CIN

With a new scheme and scant playmakers many assumed the Cinci defense would struggle, but combine that with an offense stuck in the mud without Burrow, and this defense has been outright bad this season. Bo Nix and the Denver running game carved them up Monday night, and Goff and the red-hot Lions look to do the same. Look for Goff to hit a few shots downfield in a game the Lions should control from the jump.

Justin Herbert vs WAS

With both of his cornerstone tackles out, Herbert got manhandled last week in New York. Even when he had time to throw, he took several vicious body shots, and the timing passing game suffered. Ladd McConkey has been invisible, and this seems like a great spot to turtle up, and slow the game down with a heavy dose of the run game. Herbert has been solid all year, but the protection is going to be a huge issue going forward. Temper expectations in the short term.

Trevor Lawrence vs KC

It’s hard to argue with a 3-1 start, but this passing offense doesn’t seem close to being a cohesive unit. Lawrence still puts the ball into harm's way far too often, isn’t using his legs nearly enough, and doesn’t seem to be on the same page with his coach. He’s only completing 58% of his passes on the season, and the big plays in the passing game just haven’t materialized. Things aren’t turning around against a rejuvenated Kansas City team.

Mac Jones @ LAR (THU)

With guys in and out of the lineup on a weekly basis this San Fran offense hasn’t been able to establish any rhythm this season. Purdy didn’t look healthy last week, and will now be out, setting the stage for Jones to return to the lineup. Jones was solid in a Week 2 game against the Saints, but came back to earth the following week. Banged up himself, he also won’t have Kittle, Pearsall or Jennings on a short week against a rowdy Rams defense. McCaffrey is the only Niner skill position player worth considering.
