D-Jax expected to inherit "Z" receiver role A.J. Green played same position for Gruden in Cincinnati By: Doug Orth | Jul 17 2014, 4:35 pm
DeSean Jackson could play a role similar to A.J. Green, who played the Z role in Cincinnati under former OC Jay Gruden, allowing him to line up a yard off the line of scrimmage. Both Green and Jackson are legitimate deep threats that defenses have to account for on every play.
Pierre Garcon will likely continue under Gruden. The X receiver lines up on the line of scrimmage and as a result faces more press-man coverage. Marvin Jones worked his way into the X receiver role in Cincinnati, running similar routes to the ones we’ve become accustomed to Garcon running in Washington. (Washington Post)
FFToday's Take:Garcon at "X" and Jackson at "Z" was the assumption all along since Garcon is bigger and already accustomed to the role while the smaller Jackson will be afforded space to begin his route. Garcon is the odds-on favorite to lead the team in all receiving categories since he is Robert Griffin III's go-to guy, but perhaps Jackson will be more than just a deep threat in what should be a highly-explosive offense.
