2014 Outlook
Depth Chart
Coming off a career year in 2013 when he caught 82 balls for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns, DeSean Jackson is a candidate to be over-drafted in fantasy drafts this summer. Playing in Chip Kelly's complex and up-tempo passing game, Jackson saw his numbers rise dramatically across the board last year in Philadelphia. It should be noted that prior to last season, Jackson averaged only 55 receptions in five years. This year's drafters should likely use the midpoint of that average and his 82 receptions last season as a baseline for projecting reception totals for Jackson. He is still one of the more dynamic players in the league with the ball in his hands and the Washington offense is expected to be pass heavy, so he's still a solid bet for WR2 production. Don't draft him based on last year's top-10 finish, though, or you could be very disappointed at year's end.

Injury DeSean Jackson leaves practice early
Could miss preseason opener
By: Jake Gordon | Wed Aug 6, 2:45 pm

Washington Redskins
RICHMOND — Early in Wednesday morning’s walkthrough, the horde of fans lining the practice field let out a collective groan. Redskins wide receiver DeSean Jackson swatted down a pass in his direction, hobbling off the field while favoring his left ankle. Jackson later walked off the field with his ankle wrapped in white tape, watched part of practice from the trainers’ table and did not return. (Washington Times)

FFToday's Take: Head Coach Jay Gruden said Jackson's availability for Thursday night will depend on how his treatment goes. By most accounts it doesn't look like this is a major cause for concern to fantasy owners. Nevertheless, Washington may want to play it safe considering fellow wideout Pierre Garcon (hamstring) has already been ruled out.

Jordan Reed impressive in scrimmage vs. Pats
Pats reporter believes TE is in line for big season
By: Doug Orth | Mon Aug 4, 4:30 pm

Washington Redskins
Jordan Reed looks like a star. He was open all practice, and hauled in a really nice catch over the out-stretched arms of Darrelle Revis and Devin McCourty along the sideline. Reed is in line for a big season, especially with the Redskins having so many weapons at receiver (DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon and Andre Roberts). (Boston Globe)

FFToday's Take: Reed has suffered four concussions dating back to college and it is that injury history that appears to be his biggest obstacle en route to becoming an elite fantasy tight end. While he can't be expected to maintain the 90-catch pace he had in eight games last season with a much less talented receiving corps, he figures to compete with Garcon to be the team's leader in touchdown catches.

D-Jax expected to inherit "Z" receiver role
A.J. Green played same position for Gruden in Cincinnati
By: Doug Orth | Thu Jul 17, 4:35 pm

Washington Redskins
DeSean Jackson could play a role similar to A.J. Green, who played the Z role in Cincinnati under former OC Jay Gruden, allowing him to line up a yard off the line of scrimmage. Both Green and Jackson are legitimate deep threats that defenses have to account for on every play. Pierre Garcon will likely continue under Gruden. The X receiver lines up on the line of scrimmage and as a result faces more press-man coverage. Marvin Jones worked his way into the X receiver role in Cincinnati, running similar routes to the ones we’ve become accustomed to Garcon running in Washington. (Washington Post)

FFToday's Take: Garcon at "X" and Jackson at "Z" was the assumption all along since Garcon is bigger and already accustomed to the role while the smaller Jackson will be afforded space to begin his route. Garcon is the odds-on favorite to lead the team in all receiving categories since he is Robert Griffin III's go-to guy, but perhaps Jackson will be more than just a deep threat in what should be a highly-explosive offense.

Injury DeSean Jackson nursing strained hamstring
Back at practice, not yet 100%
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Jun 11, 2:20 pm

Washington Redskins
Wide receiver DeSean Jackson this week returned to action after spending last week on the sideline nursing a strained hamstring. Jackson tweaked his hamstring two weeks ago, during the Redskins’ first week of offseason practices, and he sat out last week’s session while allowing it to heal. (Washington Post)

FFToday's Take: Jackson went through practice Wednesday without incident but was a little tentative out of breaks. Head coach Jay Gruden called it a "minor deal" so fantasy owners shouldn't be overly concerned at this time.
