Game Preview
Mike Krueger

Predicted Score: Lions 23, Cardinals 17

Detroit: The Lions are coming off a 44-7 pasting of the Denver Broncos but now travel to Arizona where the Cardinals have beaten the Seahawks and upset the Steelers. But the Lions are getting some continuity in their defense and now have a legitimate runner (Kevin Jones) to go with their quad-receiver formations. Their use of Williams, Johnson, McDonald, and Furrey makes it tough on fantasy owners as anyone of them is capable of a big game from week to week… frustrating and tantalizing at the same time. The Cardinals defense has cooled in recent weeks and doesn't pose a big roadblock for the Lions offense but is definitely good enough to keep them in the game. This should be a one-score game and although the Cardinals have proven to be tough at home, the Lions are the better team right now, and should prevail.

  • Start: QB Jon Kitna, RB Kevin Jones, WR Roy Williams, WR Calvin Johnson
  • Consider: WR Shaun McDonald, WR Mike Furrey
  • Sit: RB Tatum Bell, TE Dan Campbell

Arizona: The Cardinals played their worse offensive game of the season last week mustering only 195 yards of offense in a 17-10 loss to Tampa Bay. "I'm disgusted, I'm embarrassed. I'm way too good a football player to be a part of something that we just did out there on the field," said Kurt Warner. "That was just ridiculous, the way we played offensively." We'll just give them a mulligan and call it good because the skill position players in Arizona are too talented to repeat that performance. And while the Lions are improving on defense they still represent a positive matchup for Warner and the passing game. They've allowed three 300-yd passing games and given up 14 passing touchdowns this season. Fitzgerald and Boldin should be good options with Edgerrin James returning to 80-yd form.

  • Start: RB Edgerrin James, WR Larry Fitzgerald. WR Anquan Boldin
  • Consider: QB Kurt Warner
  • Sit: WR Bryant Johnson, TE Leonard Pope
