A year ago, Jalen Guyton (31-448-3) was the de facto No.3 receiver. While he's still in the mix for the job, Palmer (33-353-4) has more upside. A third-round pick last year, Palmer got more involved as the season wore on, scoring in three of the team's final five games while posting his three highest yardage totals in those same games. With a year under his belt to improve his route running, Palmer has a shot to develop into a more consistent downfield weapon. His fantasy profile is nominal as long as Williams and Allen are healthy, but if anything happens to them Palmer could be a priority addition.

Mike Williams downgraded to Out Won't travel with the team By: Mike Krueger | Fri Jan 13, 12:09 pm

| | #Chargers WR Mike Williams, who was previously listed as questionable with a back injury, will remain in Los Angeles to continue receiving treatment and has been downgraded to out for Saturday night's game in Jacksonville. (Tom Pelissero on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Playing Williams in a meaningless Week 18 game against the Broncos has come back to bite HC Brandon Staley. Williams injured his back and will now miss the Chargers Wildcard game against Jacksonville. In his absence, we should see an increase in opportunity for Josh Palmer who had four games of double-digit targets during the regular season while Williams and Keenan Allen battled injuries.

| Mike Williams misses practice Thursday, Questionable Back injury By: Mike Krueger | Thu Jan 12, 4:16 pm

| | #Chargers WR Mike Williams (back) did not practice today and is questionable for Saturday. The team will give him up to game-time to be able to go vs. the #Jaguars. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Williams injured his back (spasms) in a meaningless Week 18 game against the Broncos and is now in danger of missing the team's Wildcard game against Jacksonville. If he sits, that will move Josh Palmer into a more prominent role and be a viable DFS and playoff league option this week.

| Mike Williams dealing with back bruise Left early in team's Week 18 loss to the Broncos By: Doug Orth | Mon Jan 9, 5:00 pm

| | Brandon Staley said Mike Williams' MRI showed no fracture or muscle injury in his back. He has a contusion, Staley said. And Staley expects Williams to return to practice at some point this week.
(The Athletic - Daniel Popper)
FFToday's Take: While this news bodes well for Williams' ability to play in the Wild-Card Round, it also begs the question of why Staley had so many of his key players playing so long into what was essentially a meaningless game on Sunday. Expect Justin Herbert to rely heavily on Austin Ekeler and Keenan Allen yet again versus the Jaguars since it appears Williams won't be close to 100 percent. Josh Palmer may see a few snaps as a result.

| Mike Williams back in action for Week 14 Off the injury report By: Mike Krueger | Fri Dec 9, 4:39 pm

| | WR Mike Williams (ankle) is off the injury report and expected to play Sunday vs. Dolphins. (Daniel Popper on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Williams has been battling a high ankle sprain ever since Week 8. He returned in Week 11 but only played one quarter before aggravating the injury. He'll give it a go again here in Week 14 against the Dolphins in the highest total (53.5) game of the week. Him being back in the lineup makes downgrades Josh Palmer to a Flex option.

| Mike Williams suffers another ankle injury Aggravation of earlier high-ankle sprain By: Doug Orth | Tue Nov 22, 1:30 am

| | WR Mike Williams had a "re-aggravation" of his high ankle sprain last night, per Brandon Staley. Staley said team will "find out a lot more in the next couple days" but it is not considered "a significant re-injury." (The Athletic - Daniel Popper)
FFToday's Take: Williams lasted all of six snaps in Week 11 after sitting out three weeks (missing two games) with his Week 7 high-ankle sprain. He won't have the benefit of a bye week this time around, so there is a good chance Williams does not return until the fantasy playoffs if the Chargers learn their lesson and are more cautious with him this time. Josh Palmer had a huge game in his stead and should remain a viable WR3 option in most 12-team leagues.
