2024 Outlook
Depth Chart
A team featuring a target vacuum like Stefon Diggs typically means that there is only one, or sometimes no other viable fantasy pass-catchers in the offense. That was certainly the case in 2023 for the Bills when Diggs and rookie tight end Dalton Kincaid left the other pass-catchers scrounging for leftovers.

With Diggs and Gabe Davis leaving this offseason, Khalil Shakir could see a significant uptick in playing time here in 2024. Both Diggs and Davis played over 80 percent of the Bills' offensive snaps in 2023, with Shakir finishing third among receivers at nearly a 52 percent snap share. He was the only other wide receiver on the roster to play even 35 percent of the snaps, and he did so playing primarily out of the slot. Interestingly enough, rather than bring in a veteran outside receiver to complement their existing roster with Shakir on it, the Bills instead opted to bring in Curtis Samuel who also played most of his snaps out of the slot for the Commanders this past season. Chase Claypool has reportedly been making some splashes in training camp, but he's done practically nothing for multiple seasons in a row, so we have to assume that Shakir or Samuel - or perhaps both - will see their percentage of slot snaps go down this season as they are asked to move outside more often. This might sound like a good thing on the surface, but neither player has shown success playing outside, so we really just have to hope that their total snaps see a significant enough increase to make up for the role changes they're likely to experience.

Shakir did provide three games of 90 or more yards for the Bills in 2023 and his yards per target number was incredible, so there's some potential for a breakout here. He's not a bad late-round dart throw if you're looking to get a piece of this Buffalo offense.

Trade: Cleveland sends WR Amari Cooper to Buffalo
Browns get third round pick
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Oct 15, 2:18 pm

Cleveland Browns
Full trade, per multiple sources: Browns are getting a 3rd round and the Bills get Amari Cooper. The two teams are also going to make a swap of late picks. Bills get a 6th, Browns get a 7th. (Jordan Schultz on X)

FFToday's Take: The Bills have been lacking an alpha receiver in their offense and now they get one. They've been using a 5-man receiver rotation but we'll see if this move helps condense their rotation to Cooper, Khalil Shakir and rookie Keon Coleman. Perhaps Mack Hollins will stay on the field and Cooper will push Coleman to the bench. Either way, this is a good move for Cooper's fantasy value as he gets a big upgrade in quarterback play.

Injury James Cook out, Khalil Shakir in vs. Jets
RB ruled out due to toe injury
By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 14, 6:50 pm

Buffalo Bills
Another Monday night inactive surprise at RB: James Cook is out tonight due to his toe injury, per source. It’s the first NFL game in three seasons that Cook has missed. WR Khalil Shakir is active. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)

FFToday's Take: Once the Bills elevated Frank Gore Jr. earlier in the day, the writing appeared to be on the wall for Gore. As it stands, Buffalo figures to roll with Ray Davis and Ty Johnson in Cook's absence. As far as Shakir is concerned, he should have no issue resuming his role as Josh Allen's top target. His biggest hurdle figures to be a stingy Jets' pass defense that will likely be even more amped for DC Jeff Ulbrich - the team's new interim head coach.

Injury Shakir, Cook listed as Questionable for Monday night
Will be limited in practice Saturday
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Oct 12, 11:04 am

Buffalo Bills
McDermott: DT Ed Oliver is out this week against the Jets. NCB Taron Johnson, WR Khalil Shakir, DT Austin Johnson and RB James Cook will be limited in practice today and all will be listed as questionable for Monday night. (Chris Brown on X)

FFToday's Take: Both Shakir (ankle) and Cook (toe) missed practice on Thursday and Friday of this week but will get in a limited session on Saturday. Adam Schefter has reported that Cook plans to play against the Jets. Shakir missed last week's game with an ankle injury. Hopefully we'll get more clarity on both prior to games kicking off on Sunday.

Injury Khalil Shakir's Week 6 status uncertain
Ankle injury sidelined him in Week 5
By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 7, 7:10 pm

Buffalo Bills
Khalil Shakir is day-to-day, according to HC Sean McDermott. (ESPN.com - Alaina Getzenberg)

FFToday's Take: Assuming Shakir is dealing with a low-ankle sprain, it would be surprising if he's not ready to face the Jets on Monday night to wrap up Week 6. There within lies the rub, however, as fantasy managers may have to make an educated guess based off practice reports if he will return. Even then, the matchup is not a great one. With that said, Josh Allen seemed to miss his top wideout in a Week 5 loss to the Texans. Consider Shakir a WR4/flex option this week with WR3 upside based on how much practice work he logs.

Injury Khalil Shakir Out for Week 5 with ankle injury
Missed practice all week
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 4, 11:08 am

Buffalo Bills
Bills HC Sean McDermott ruled out Khalil Shakir and Ed Oliver for Sunday’s game against the Texans. (Adam Schefter on X)

FFToday's Take: Shakir injured his ankle in Week 4, but later returned to the game. Expect the Bills to be run-focused against the Ravens this week but we could see a few more opportunities for rookie Keon Coleman and tight end Dalton Kincaid.

Injury Curtis Samuel dealing with turf toe
WR listed week-to-week
By: Doug Orth | Mon Aug 19, 8:30 pm

Buffalo Bills
According to Buffalo Bills HC Sean McDermott, WR Curtis Samuel is considered week-to-week with a turf toe injury. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)

FFToday's Take: Much depends on the grade of the sprain, as a Grade 1 sprain will likely allow Samuel to play in Week 1. A Grade 2 sprain could bother him for a while after that. Hopefully, neither the Bills nor Samuel rush his return, as this is an issue that could linger all season if not managed properly. Fantasy managers should expect a heavier dose of Khalil Shakir and Dalton Kincaid over the first couple weeks of the season.
