2025 Outlook
Depth Chart
Tua Tagovailoa's 2024 season saw him go for 2,867 yards, 19 TDs, 7 INTs in 11 starts, including an impressive 72.9% completion rate. This helped prove that Tua is still capable of being efficient, particularly in Mike McDaniels' offense. The unfortunate reality is that his injury history -- missing 3+ games in four of five seasons, including six in 2024 -- makes him a high-risk QB2 heading into 2025.

Tagovailoa's complete lack of rushing production caps his fantasy ceiling, but what's worse is that a weak offensive line adds constant pressure to a player who already has serious injury concerns. Worse yet, with Zach Wilson and rookie Quinn Ewers as backups, there's even a possibility that Tua could hit the bench if his efficiency declines.

Thankfully, Tua's low ADP reflects the risks associated with drafting him and a healthy Tua in this pass-heavy system has the potential to return a low-level QB1 result.

News From The Past 90 Days
Dolphins drop the hammer on HC Mike McDaniel
Team will be looking for a new GM and head coach
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Jan 8, 10:33 am

Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins fired Mike McDaniel, per sources. Stephen Ross and Mike McDaniel met this week to discuss the season. After that meeting and a few days of reflection, Ross made this decision and informed McDaniel this morning. The team is currently working to hire a GM. Now, it’ll be a full organizational reset. (Tom Pelissero on X)

FFToday's Take: There are also rumblings that the team could move on from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, although that would result in a huge hit of $99M in dead money. In any case, the offense is going to have a new philosophy depending on the next head coach and OC. Miami has missed the playoffs the last two seasons and McDaniel finishes his stint in Florida with a 35-33 record.

Tua Tagovailoa ready to leave Miami?
QB would be "good" with a fresh start
By: Doug Orth | Mon Jan 5, 9:00 pm

Miami Dolphins
Asked if he is hoping for a “fresh start,” Miami Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa said, “That would be dope. I would be good with it.” (Palm Beach Post - Joe Schad)

FFToday's Take: On one hand, Tagovailoa is a player who led the league in passing in 2023 and completion percentage in 2024, so it is not as if he is a bum. On the other hand, he is coming off arguably the worst of his six seasons in the league and has benefited greatly from HC Mike McDaniel's offense over the years. Tagovailoa is not getting cut anytime soon - a release in 2026 would result in a dead money charge of almost $100 million - so it would be in his (and Miami's) best interest to continue the marriage for at least one more year. Still, it says a lot that Tagovailoa did not even try to dodge the question.

Dolphins make a change at QB: Tua out, Quinn Ewers in
Miami faces Cincinnati in Week 16
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Dec 17, 10:30 am

Miami Dolphins
A major move in Miami: the Dolphins are benching QB Tua Tagovailoa and turning to Quinn Ewers as their new starting QB, per sources. Ewers’ first start comes Sunday vs. the Bengals. (Adam Schefter on X)

FFToday's Take: Tua has struggled this season including throwing the most INTs (15) among all quarterbacks and with the Dolphins out of the playoff race, a change has been made. Ewers was drafted in the 7th round back in April and will be making his first NFL start against the Bengals. This will case some doubt on the fantasy value of Jaylen Waddle and TE Darren Waller. Tagovailoa is due $54 million fully guaranteed in 2026.
