2021 Outlook
Depth Chart
Raiders tight end Darren Waller proved that his 2019 breakout wasn't a fluke by putting together one of the truly great fantasy tight end seasons of all-time in 2020. His 1,196 yards receiving was 13th-most in the history of the position and his 280.6 standard scoring fantasy point total in 2020 made him the second-highest scorer at the position on the year, behind only Travis Kelce's record-breaking performance.

Waller's 2020 season might actually be going underappreciated in fantasy, because it's easy to compare him to Kelce, but he outscored the next-highest-scoring tight end, Robert Tonyan, by a ridiculous 104 fantasy points. In fact, Waller's 2020 season would've been the highest-scoring fantasy tight end season in 2019, the second-highest-scoring in 2018, and the highest scoring in 2017, 2016, 2015, and 2014. You'd have to go back all the way to 2011 before there was a season where more than two tight ends outscored Waller's 2020 totals, and even then Waller would've been third-best by only 16 fantasy points on the year, and he would've outscored the next-best player at the position by over 70 points.

With the Raiders losing their top wide receiver, Nelson Agholor, in free agency, there are now more questions than perhaps ever before at the position. This only furthers the likelihood that Derek Carr will look to make Waller the focal point of their passing game.

Waller is one of only two tight ends (alongside George Kittle) who has a realistic chance to supplant Travis Kelce as the top-scoring tight end this season. His price might sound steep as an early-to-mid-third round pick in fantasy drafts, but when you consider that you're getting truly difference-making production at a position that lacks depth as a whole, Waller could again be a big value in fantasy drafts if he's able to replicate - or even come close to replicating his 2020 season here in 2021.

Injury Waller, Jacobs listed as Questionable for Raiders
Both are gametime decisions
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Jan 7, 4:00 pm

Las Vegas Raiders
Darren Waller was a limited participant in walk-throughs throughout the week, which marked the first time he practiced since suffering knee and back injuries against the Cowboys on Thanksgiving. He’s listed as questionable to play Sunday. Running back Josh Jacobs (ribs) was a limited participant all week. He’s questionable to play, but he’ll suit up if he can tolerate the pain. (The Athletic)

FFToday's Take: Waller is going to be a gametime decision and is no lock to play a full amount of snaps even if he is active. We should get a better read on Waller's status Sunday morning. Jacobs seems a better bet to play but both should will be uncomfortable fantasy options in Week 18.

Injury Darren Waller likely back for season finale
Missed last four games with multiple ailments
By: Doug Orth | Mon Jan 3, 9:40 pm

Las Vegas Raiders
Rich Bisaccia said they're anticipating getting Darren Waller back this week. (Fresno Bee - Anthony Galaviz)

FFToday's Take: Waller was having a bit of a disappointing season by his standards before suffering knee and back injuries on Thanksgiving night. He also landed on the COVID list last week. The Raiders get the Chargers in Week 18 - an opponent that Waller posted a 4-50-1 line against in Week 4. Regardless of his production this season, Waller changes how opponents play the Raiders, so he will be welcomed back with open arms if he can go. He will be a TE1 option if he plays next weekend.

Injury Darren Waller lands on the Covid list
Will need to produce negative tests in order to play
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Dec 29, 3:30 pm

Las Vegas Raiders
Rich Bisaccia said the #Raiders got Roderic Teamer, Jermaine Eluemunor and Brandon Facyson back from the reserve/COVID-19 list, but Darren Waller was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list today. Waller won't be able to clear the 5-day quarantine period in time to play Sunday, but he's vaccinated so he can get off the list if he's able to provide negative COVID-19 tests. (Tashan Reed on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: As we've seen, it's very difficult for players to produce negative tests in the same week they were put on the list. While it's still possible, it's unlikely Waller (knee) will play this week. Expect Foster Moreau to be the Raiders tight end against the Colts.

Optimism building Darren Waller can play Week 14
HC referred to TE's status as day-to-day on Monday
By: Doug Orth | Mon Dec 6, 11:50 pm

Las Vegas Raiders
TE Darren Waller (knee, oblique) is now day-to-day, as opposed to week-to-week, Bisaccia said. (The Athletic - Vic Tafur)

FFToday's Take: Considering Waller was deemed week-to-week last week, a day-to-day designation sounds like he is making solid progress. Although he sometimes struggles to see the target totals that other elite tight ends often reach, Waller is capable of blowing up in any week and is the clear top option in the Raiders' passing game. Foster Moreau has low-end TE1 upside against the Chiefs in Week 14 if Waller can't go, while Waller is an obvious top-five option is cleared to return.

Injury Darren Waller week-to-week with knee injury
Strained IT band
By: Doug Orth | Mon Nov 29, 4:30 pm

Las Vegas Raiders
#Raiders interim coach Rich Bisaccia says TE Darren Waller and DE Carl Nassib are both week-to-week with knee injuries. LB Nick Kwiatkoski (ankle) could be back this week. CB Keisean Nixon (ankle) is less certain. CB Trayvon Mullen (foot) should be designated for return from IR. (Tashan Reed on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Waller's injury is reportedly a strained IT band which we don't typically hear about a lot in NFL circles. At a position where fantasy owners are often searching, Foster Moreau against the Football Team in Week 13 could be your answer.

Injury Darren Waller to have MRI on knee injury
Injured during Week 12
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Nov 26, 7:15 am

Las Vegas Raiders
From @GMFB: The #Cowboys may alter Ezekiel Elliott's touches as he deals with a bone bruise in his knee, while #Raiders TE Darren Waller will have tests today on a knee injury suffered last night. He was not in a lot of pain late, so maybe good news there. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Waller left yesterday's game against the Cowboys in the 2nd quarter with a knee injury and never returned. This seems like a short-term knee sprain but could cost him a week or two. We'll know more in the next day or two after the MRI.
