To say Watson was rusty after his self-inflicted hiatus was an understatement. In his first four starts in a Browns uniform Watson posted a 2-3 touchdown-to-inception ratio, and labored to complete more than half of his passes. Things perked up in the final two games with five passing touchdowns, but the 2022 season was all about getting his legs under him, and distancing himself from the off the field noise.
Watson now enters his sixth year in the NFL with expanded expectations. The addition of Elijah Moore in a trade from the Jets gives Watson a potentially lethal slot man, rookie 3rd round receiver Cedric Tillman provides a big body out wide, and the rest of skill position players are veteran playmakers. This division is stacked, and Cleveland should find themselves in more than a few shootouts. With a distraction-free offseason to get better acquainted with the playbook and speed of the game, Watson should be in line for a massive bounceback season. Before derailing his career, Watson was on an All-Pro trajectory, and will very likely return to provide top-10 upside in 2023.

Deshaun Watson will have shoulder surgery, out for the year Dorian Thompson-Robinson expected to start By: Mike Krueger | Wed Nov 15, 8:58 am

| | #Browns QB Deshaun Watson wanted to be shot up and play through the injuries, and he sought multiple medical opinions, per sources. But doctors were clear: if he got hit again in the same spot, the shoulder could fall apart. Now surgery awaits and his 2023 season is over. (Tom Pelissero on X)
FFToday's Take: Watson played in six games this season, first injuring his shoulder in Week 3. This is a blow to the playoff hopes of the Browns and now with Dorian Thompson-Robinson starting, it's a blow to the upside of Amari Cooper and the offense. Upcoming schedule for Cleveland includes Pittsburgh, @ Denver, @ LA Rams and Jacksonville.

| Deshaun Watson will start Week 9 Off the injury report By: Mike Krueger | Fri Nov 3, 12:49 pm

| | #Browns QB Deshaun Watson will start Sunday vs. Arizona, coach Kevin Stefanski said. He's off the injury report. (Tom Pelissero on X)
FFToday's Take: Watson got in a full practice on Friday and has been removed from the injury report. The last time he played was Week 7 against the Colts when he left early after banging his head and shoulder on the turf. This week, the Browns face the Cardinals who've given up the 8th-most fantasy points to quarterbacks. Given the state of the position, Watson will be on the high-end QB2, low-end QB1 radar.

| Deshaun Watson not expected to play Week 6 P.J. Walker taking first team reps in practice By: Mike Krueger | Thu Oct 12, 6:33 pm

| | I’m told the #Browns QB Deshaun Watson will not play Sunday vs the 5-0 #49ers, per source. (Josina Anderson on X)
FFToday's Take: Watson missed the Browns' Week 4 game and had the bye week to get healed up, but apparently isn't ready to step on the field. P.J. Walker has been taking first-team reps in practice this week and should get the start against the 49ers. This isn't great for Amari Cooper and Elijah Moore as both will slide in the rankings down to Flex options in Week 6.

| Deshaun Watson Out for Week 4 with shoulder injury Dorian Thompson-Robinson expected to start By: Mike Krueger | Sun Oct 1, 10:44 am

| | With Deshaun Watson not being healthy enough to play today, the Browns rookie fifth-round pick QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson now is expected to start vs. the Ravens. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)
FFToday's Take: Watson didn't practice much this week and it appears his shoulder isn't going to allow him to play. In his place, Dorian Thompson-Robinson will get the start. He has some rushing ability which gives him a nice floor but will be a risky QB2 play against the Ravens in Week 4.
