Set to undergo left shoulder surgery

|  | Vikings QB Carson Wentz is undergoing season-ending surgery on his left shoulder. He will be placed on IR.
Wentz played multiple games with the injury. J.J. McCarthy is in line to start for Minnesota in Week 9 against Detroit. (The Athletic - Dianna Russini)
FFToday's Take: It is unclear if this is a good thing or not for the Vikings' pass-catchers, most notably Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison. McCarthy played only about one quarter of good football through two games, although this is essentially his rookie season after he missed all of last year. He won't catch mmuch of a break from the opponent, as the Lions rank inside the top five in sacks (23) despite having only played seven games.

| | With J.J. McCarthy still recovering from his high ankle sprain, the Vikings once again will start QB Carson Wentz, who spent the first five seasons of his NFL career with Philadelphia. (Adam Schefter on X)
FFToday's Take: McCarthy injured his ankle in Week 2 and will remain out as the Vikings head into Week 7 to face the Eagles. Wentz (shoulder) has finished as the QB15, QB8 and QB24 in his three starts. The Eagles are a middling matchup against QBs making Wentz check in as a mid-range QB2 for Week 7.

Sam Howell traded to PHI, Vikings sign Carson Wentz

| | Trade: Vikings are sending QB Sam Howell to the Philadelphia Eagles, per ESPN sources. Howell now will join Jalen Hurts and Tanner McKee in the Eagles QB room. Minnesota receives 5th in 2026 and a 7th in 2027. Philly gets QB Sam Howell and a 6th in 2026. (Adam Schefter on X)
FFToday's Take: Current Eagles backup QB Tanner McKee injured his finger and is expected to miss some time which likely compelled Philadelphia to do this deal. In a corresponding move, the Vikings have signed QB Carson Wentz after a tryout on Saturday. Hopefully, neither Howell or Wentz will get a start in 2025.
