Melvin Gordon

Melvin Gordon
/Javonte Williams vs CIN

Denver has found a successful formula with their backfield. Veteran Gordon looks as fresh as ever, and rookie Williams has provided a dual threat, big play chain mover as the 1A. The 1-2 punch of the running game has allowed Denver to be conservative on offense, and efficient on defense. The duo has combined for 15 total touchdowns, and in games where the Broncos can maintain a positive game script, both backs are good for 15+ touches.

James Robinson vs HOU

It’s been a tumultuous season for Robinson and the Jags. Their latest debacle was a shutout loss to the Titans that saw Robinson lead the team with 4 rushing yards. Yes, it was that bad. It’s been quite some time since Robinson’s hot four-game stretch in October, but I expect Jacksonville to lean on the run game in a home game against a miserable Houston team.

Dolphins RBs vs NYJ

With Covid devastating this backfield, the starting options for Miami could range from Myles Gaskin, Salvon Ahmed to Malcolm Brown to the ghost of Lamar Miller, but whoever takes the bulk of carries against the Jets is almost assured of quality production. New York has been shredded by backs this season giving up by far the most fantasy production. Their lack of gap discipline and athleticism in the 2nd and 3rd layers of the defense means they are constantly gashed on the ground. Keep an eye on the depth chart in Miami through the week.

Lions RBs vs ARI

Injuries and Covid have decimated backfields across the league, and the Lions are no exception. Down to the likes of practice squad call-up Craig Reynolds (granted he was decent last week), this position group is an absolute mess. If Jamaal Williams is cleared by gametime he probably leads the backfield, but a three-way spit is also likely. Facing an afternoon of negative game script, please avoid this backfield entirely.

Miles Sanders vs WAS

Will Sanders return healthy after the bye? How much of the touch share will Howard, Scott and Gainwell command? The real question you should be asking is how badly do I need to rely on Sanders if he plays? It’s much more effective to attack Washington through the air, so I’m just not sure how much fantasy juice you can squeeze here.

Devonta Freeman vs GB

The return of Latavius Murray, the poor matchup, and a potentially hobbled Lamar Jackson are all checks against Freeman this week. Sure he’s been surprisingly effective this season, and you might be forced to play him, but my expectations are quite low.
