Coleman, Freeman "battling for it" in Atlanta
Freeman stands atop depth chart for now
By: Doug Orth | Jun 1 2015, 4:45 pm

Falcons HC Dan Quinn noted Tevin Coleman and Devonta Freeman are “absolutely battling for (the right to start at running back in Week 1),” and, at present, it’s difficult to forecast how the situation will unfold. For now, as Coleman eases his way into the organization, Freeman remains at the top of the depth chart. Regardless of how the carries are distributed, Freeman has the tools needed to be a valuable asset in the passing game. A big reason why the Falcons like Coleman is his knowledge of the zone-blocking scheme. As a senior at Indiana, he darted for more than 2,000 yards. New OC Kyle Shanahan’s system will look a lot like the one Coleman studied at Indiana, at least from his perspective. (atlantafalcons.com)

FFToday's Take: It should come as no surprise if Coleman and Freeman end up sharing carries at the beginning of the season, but as Shanahan's hand-picked selection with experience running behind a zone-blocking line, it would be a bit of an upset if Coleman didn't eventually take the lead role at some point in 2015. Shanahan's system is usually very fantasy-friendly, so owners need to keep an eye on how this situation evolves over the summer.
