Green Bay has one of the most top-heavy backfields in the NFL. With trusty backup Emmanuel Wilson off to Seattle, undrafted, but recently re-signed Chris Brooks and the talented but oft injured MarShawn Lloyd are vying for understudy status. Brooks would seem to be the play here, as the team has made a real financial commitment to him, and has seen the field a little in his time with the Packers. Lloyd, despite playing only 10 snaps since being a 3rd round pick in 2024, remains on the roster. His theoretical talent and draft pedigree have kept him on the team, but it's now or never for the former USC product. Keep a close eye on this battle in camp, as the winner will be significantly involved if Jacobs misses time.

Josh Jacobs lands on Commissioner's exempt list
Will not be on the Packers' 53-man roster

Jacobs, who was charged Thursday with two misdemeanors related to an alleged incident in May, will be paid while on the list but not allowed to practice or play. (Tom Pelissero on X)
FFToday's Take: This means Jacobs won't be on the initial Packers' 53-man roster and can't attend practice or games. We don't know how long Jacobs will remain on the Commissioner's exempt list or how many games he will miss. He's got a court appearance scheduled for November 17th but its very possible the league will hand out it's discipline before then. The Packers acquired RB Kaleb Johnson from the Steelers earlier today to fill their depth chart. MarShawn Lloyd's value increases significantly as long as Jacobs remains out.

FFToday's Take: Jacobs reportedly injured his groin on Monday or Tuesday. As a team with one of the most conservative medical staffs in the league, don't expect Jacobs to return anytime before the end of next week. MarShawn Lloyd is reportedly having a good camp and staying healthy for the first time in his NFL career, so he has a chance to make this backfield something more than "The Josh Jacobs Show." Jacobs should remain a solid pick in the third or fourth round of drafts for now, but Lloyd now warrants consideration in the later rounds.
