In terms of talent, Rice is the real deal. After serving a six-game suspension to begin last season, he went out and caught 16 passes, including three touchdowns, in his first two games. Injuries ultimately put him on the shelf for the second year in a row, however, and he's now played in just 12 of Kansas City's last 34 games. Things didn't stabilize during the offseason, either. Rice underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in May, just in time to serve a 30-day jail sentence for violating the conditions of his parole by testing positive for marijuana.
Reid has expressed optimism that Rice will be available at the start of the camp, and there's no sign that the NFL is considering another suspension for his latest off-the-field misstep. That's good news for the Chiefs, which desperately need Rice healthy and available to give Mahomes a potential go-to receiver that he has lacked since Tyreek Hill left town. With Travis Kelce now in the twilight of his career, it's doubly important for Kansas City that Rice start living up to his potential.
On the field, there's a lot to like about Rice, who has posted 77 receptions, 859 yards and 7 TDs in his last 12 games -- that's a 17-game pace of 109-1,217-10. He's also entering the final year of his rookie deal, giving him tremendous incentive to prove he can function as a reliable No. 1 receiver in this league. Rice holds legit top 10 potential at the position, but the risks are substantial.

Rashee Rice to spend 30 days in jail for probation violation
Tested positive for THC

|  | Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has been ordered to spend 30 days in jail for violating his probation.
Rice was taken into custody after he tested positive for THC, which violated the terms of his plea agreement in a high-speed, multi-vehicle crash in 2024 on a Dallas highway. In a filing on Tuesday, May 19, the Dallas County court ordered Rice to serve 30 days in jail for violating probation by testing positive for THC. The document states he will be released on June 16. (KSHB41 in Kansas City)
FFToday's Take: Sounds like Rice is going to miss OTA's scheduled for May and June due to poor decision making. This incident doesn't seem likely to have an affect on his regular season availability but the Chiefs or the league could rule otherwise. Stay tuned.
