Jones was rock solid in his first year with the Vikings, rushing for a career high 1,138 yards. His additional 408 receiving yards, and 51 receptions also approached career highs. Most importantly, he played a full season for only the 3rd time in his career. Entering his age 31 season Jones figures to again lead this backfield in touches if health allows, as Minnesota gave Jones $13 million guaranteed in the offseason. The addition of Jordan Mason via trade is simply insurance/future proofing at this point, as Jones is realistically locked in for this season. I just don't see him being able to repeat the fortuitous health from 2024 and that baked in risk makes him more of a low-end RB2.

Aaron Jones expected to play in Week 8 Hamstring injury By: Mike Krueger | Thu Oct 23, 1:29 pm

| | Vikings RB Aaron Jones, who has missed the last four games due to a hamstring injury, is expected to return tonight to play against the Chargers, @KirkHerbstreit told @PatMcAfeeShow. (Adam Schefter on X)
FFToday's Take: Jones last played in Week 2 when he suffered a hamstring injury. How much he plays Thursday night against the Chargers remains to be seen. He was limited in practice this week and listed as Questionable on the injury report. With no guarantee that he'll see a typical role, he's best treated as a Flex option in Week 8.

| Aaron Jones lands on injured reserve Week 2 hamstring injury puts Jordan Mason in the spotlight By: Doug Orth | Tue Sep 16, 11:00 pm

| | The Vikings are placing starting RB Aaron Jones on Injured Reserve, knocking him out four games, per me and @TomPelissero. He has a hamstring injury. Jordan Mason now becomes RB1. Cam Akers is signing to the practice squad. (NFL Network - Ian Rapoport)
FFToday's Take: Jones will not be eligible to return until Week 8 because of Minnesota's Week 6 bye. While Akers will almost certainly find his way into a few carries, the Vikings traded for Mason this offseason with an eye on him complementing Jones for as long as the 30-year-old could stay healthy and featuring him if he was unable to avoid injury. Minnesota's offense is in a world of hurt right now, but it seems quite likely that the Vikings will lean heavily on the run with Carson Wentz replacing J.J. McCarthy (ankle) for at least the next couple of weeks.

| Aaron Jones expected to miss at least one game Suffered hamstring injury in Week 2 By: Doug Orth | Mon Sep 15, 5:25 pm

| | Vikings RB Aaron Jones (hamstring) is unlikely to play this week vs. Bengals, per coach Kevin O'Connell. (ESPN.com - Kevin Seifert)
FFToday's Take: After somewhat surprisingly holding up while handling a career-high 306 touches over 17 games last season, the 30-year-old Jones was always a poor bet to stay healthy all of this season. His expected absence - likely to be in the 2-3 week range - allows Jordan Mason to take on a featured role. The good news is that he will face the Bengals in his first game with the promise of a heavy workload. The bad news is that he likely to do so with a Minnesota offense that has struggled through two weeks and will turn to backup Carson Wentz with J.J. McCarthy expected to miss time with a sprained ankle.
