2022 Outlook
Depth Chart
We all remember who Michael Thomas was. We just can't be sure who he is. The big, physical playmaker who started his career with four straight 1,000-yard receiving seasons has now missed most of the last two campaigns, including all of 2021 due to an ankle injury that has required multiple surgeries. He did not participate in team practices this Spring, and while videos have surfaced showing him doing sprint work, and team officials are saying he'll be ready for camp, it's just not reasonable to think he's going to throw the pads on and go back to being the NFL Offensive Player of the Year (2019).

When he's healthy, he's a beast. The three-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro will go across the middle, make plays on contested balls in traffic, and can run after the catch. He can single-handedly change the way the Saints play offense. The drafting of fellow Ohio State Buckeye Chris Olave, and the signing of veteran free agent Jarvis Landry will certainly cut into some of his targets, but it will also relieve some of the pressure on him to contribute right away while he re-acclimates himself to game conditions.

Two years is a long time to be off a football field, and his boy Drew Brees isn't back there chucking the rock anymore, so I need to see Thomas in action again before I start pushing him up my board. Right now, he's a WR3 for me with obvious unlimited upside. But I wouldn't expect too much too early.

Injury Michael Thomas headed to IR, surgery on toe
Not expected to play again in 2022
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Nov 3, 3:38 pm

New Orleans
Saints will place WR Michael Thomas on injured reserve and he will have surgery on his toe, according to coach Dennis Allen, who said he doesn’t know the exact timetable but doesn’t anticipate that Thomas will return this year. Was a dislocated second toe. (Mike Triplett on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: It's another lost season for Michael Thomas who has battled injuries much of the last three years, playing in only 10 games. Chris Olave is the number one receiving option for the Saints moving forward while Jarvis Landry works to come back from an ankle injury that's caused him to miss the last four weeks.

Injury Saints rule out Michael Thomas, Jarvis Landry, Trautman
Week 7 injuries
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Oct 19, 2:49 pm

New Orleans
The #Saints ruled out CB Marshon Lattimore, WR Michael Thomas, WR Jarvis Landry, G Andrus Peat and TE Adam Trautman for tomorrow night's game vs. the #Cardinals. (Ari Meirov on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The Saints will once again be depleted at the receiver position but will have Chris Olave (concussion) back in the mix to go along with Marquez Callaway and Tre'Quan Smith. Expect Juwan Johnson to handle the bulk of receiving duties at tight end.

Injury Chris Olave set to play Week 7
Tells reporters he has been cleared from concussion
By: Doug Orth | Tue Oct 18, 10:00 pm

New Orleans
Saints WR Chris Olave said he is fully cleared, 100% and planning to return Thursday at Arizona after missing Week 6 with a concussion. (ESPN - Mike Triplett)

FFToday's Take: It is great news for a receiving corps that figures to be without Michael Thomas (foot) and Jarvis Landry (ankle) again. What is less clear right now is who will be throwing him the ball as both Andy Dalton (back) and Jameis Winston (back, ankle) are limited in practice. They might also be fighting for the starting quarterback job as well. Either way, Olave makes for a good start Thursday despite facing an Arizona defense that has done a surprisingly good job at limiting wide receiver production through six games.

Injury Chris Olave not expected to play
Saints down top three receivers
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Oct 16, 8:00 am

New Orleans
Saints’ WR Chris Olave, listed as questionable for Sunday due to a concussion, is not expected to play vs. the Bengals, per source. This would leave the Saints without WRs Olave, Michael Thomas and Jarvis Landry. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The Saints will be running out the JV squad at receiver against the Bengals today. Marquez Callaway and Tre'Quan Smith are likely to start at receiver and we could see more Taysom Hill usage this week making him a more viable play if you have nothing else at tight end.

Injury Andy Dalton to start, Michael Thomas Out
Foot injury for Thomas
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 14, 3:00 pm

New Orleans
Saints coach Dennis Allen said they’re anticipating that Andy Dalton will start at QB again Sunday. Said WR Michael Thomas is getting better but not there yet. (Mike Triplett on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The Saints will once again be without quarterback Jameis Winston and receiver Michael Thomas. Chris Olave suffered a concussion last week and hasn't cleared the protocol yet but hasn't been ruled out either. We can expect a whole lot of Alvin Kamara against the Bengals.

Injury Michael Thomas Out, Andy Dalton to start for Saints
Jameis Winston Doubtful
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 7, 3:42 pm

New Orleans
Saints WR Michael Thomas officially out, QB Jameis Winston doubtful. WR Jarvis Landry listed as questionable after not practicing Friday, but coach Dennis Allen said he feels good about Landry’s chances. (Mike Triplett on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Dalton will get his second-straight start for the Saints. He finished with a 236-1-0 line and completed 71% of his passes against the Vikings last week in London. With Thomas out, expect rookie Chris Olave to be the main receiving weapon against the Seahawks.

Injury Jameis Winston, Michael Thomas miss practice Wednesday
Both missed Week 4
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Oct 5, 3:23 pm

New Orleans
Jameis Winston and Michael Thomas were not at practice today. Alvin Kamara and Marcus Maye were back on the field. (Nick Underhill on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Both players missed Week 4 against the Vikings so the week isn't getting off to a great start for them. Winston (back) missed all of practice last week and Thomas sat out with a toe injury. Rookie Chris Olave is the wide receiver to own in New Orleans.

Injury Alvin Kamara is Out for Week 4
Still battling rib issue
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Oct 2, 7:46 am

New Orleans
#Saints Coach Dennis Allen just confirmed to me Alvin Kamara will NOT play today (ribs). Jarvis Landry (ankle) will play. #MINvsNO (Stacey Dales on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: the Saints are going with the JV team in London today. Jameis Winston, Michael Thomas and now Kamara will all sit. Andy Dalton, Mark Ingram, Chris Olave and Jarvis Landry should be the leading fantasy point producers against the Vikings. Ingram slides in as a Flex consideration. Latavius Murray has been elevated from the practice squad.

Injury Michael Thomas Out, Jameis Winston listed as Doubtful
Andy Dalton likely to get the start
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 30, 9:37 am

New Orleans
Saints’ HC Dennis Allen told reporters that WR Michael Thomas is out Sunday vs. the Vikings. Saints also believe it’s doubtful that Jameis Winston, who didn’t practice today for a third straight day, will play Sunday, which makes it likely that QB Andy Dalton will start vs. the Vikings. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Thomas is dealing with a foot injury and didn't practice all week. His absence should create more room for Alvin Kamara to get involved in the pass game. Chris Olave and Jarvis Landry are both fantasy viable in their matchup against the Vikings in London. Dalton is likely to get the start at quarterback and makes for viable QB2 option.

Injury Michael Thomas expected to play
Hamstring injury
By: Mike Krueger | Sat Sep 10, 11:32 pm

New Orleans
Saints WR Michael Thomas, listed as questionable for Sunday due to a hamstring injury, is expected to play vs. the Falcons, per source. Falcons WR Drake London, listed as questionable for Sunday due to a knee injury, is expected to play vs. the Saints, per source. WRs back. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Beat reporter have suggested that Thomas has looked good in practice this week so the expectation has been that he will play. How well, how long... those are the big questions that nobody really knows. He's probably more of a Flex or WR3 option given the uncertainty.
