2019 Outlook
Depth Chart
With two straight top-10 finishes at the position, it's time to give Adam Thielen some serious respect. An expert route runner with a gigantic catch radius, Thielen was literally unstoppable during a historic first half of the 2018 season. He tied Calvin Johnson for the most consecutive 100-yard receiving games with 8, added 6 touchdowns, and recorded a mind boggling 89 targets during that span. While Thielen owners were rejoicing over the start to the season, fantasy seasons last longer than 8 weeks. And that's too bad, as Thielen's second half looked nothing like the first.

Over the final 8 games of the season, Thielen only had one more double digit game, and scored only three more touchdowns. The offensive inconsistency threw the Vikings into a tailspin from which they couldn't recover. Despite the amazing start, it's more than likely Thielen's poor second half cost those same teams fantasy titles.

All is not lost however! While I do think 2018 will likely go down as Thielen's career year, there is plenty of reason to believe he's still worthy of being a WR1 in fantasy. He's a format all-star, as he's sure to pace the Vikings in receptions for the third straight year, and is sure to push for 6+ touchdowns and 1200 yards. Thielen showed a great rapport with Cousins last season, and his technical and physical gifts make him impossible to completely shut out. He might not be exciting, but he is as reliable and productive as any receiver in the league, and you are still likely to nab him with great value in your draft.

Injury Vikings to be cautious with Adam Thielen
Needed stitches on ankle injury
By: Doug Orth | Thu Jan 9, 7:15 pm

Minnesota Vikings
Vikings WR Adam Thielen needed stitches for a bad cut on his ankle suffered in practice Wednesday, sources say. The initial prognosis was encouraging for his chances of playing Saturday against the #49ers, but they’re still gathering information and will proceed with caution. (NFL Network - Tom Pelissero)

FFToday's Take: He's listed as questionable on the team's final injury report, but a cut on an ankle - even a bad one - is probably a better fate than a sprain. In other words, he should be able to play. A bigger issue is a 49ers defense that is finally getting healthy. Thielen is a strong fantasy option regardless of the opponent, but this probably isn't the week to bet on him coming through in a big way.

Injury Adam Thielen misses practice Thursday
Ankle injury

Minnesota Vikings
Receiver Adam Thielen (ankle) watching warmups today, doesn’t look like he’s practicing. Stefon Diggs (illness) is back for #Vikings. (Andrew Krammer on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Thielen suffered a cut on his ankle yesterday that required stitches. He's expected to play Saturday against the 49ers but monitor updated tomorrow and Saturday morning.

Injury Stefon Diggs misses practice Wednesday
Illness
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Jan 8, 3:00 pm

Minnesota Vikings
Three #Vikings - Stefon Diggs (illness), Jayron Kearse (toe/knee) and Mackensie Alexander (knee) - unable to practice today. Adam Thielen limited with an ankle injury that popped up today. (Andrew Krammer on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Head coach Mike Zimmer was optimistic that Diggs would be ready to play on Saturday against the 49ers. In all likelihood, Diggs will be in his normal role this week.

Injury Adam Thielen on track to return Week 15
Missed better part of last seven weeks with hamstring injury
By: Doug Orth | Thu Dec 12, 6:35 pm

Minnesota Vikings
Vikings WR Adam Thielen again going through all individual drills at practice today. This is as close as we’ve seen him to game speed in practice, which is a promising sign for his return Sunday. (Fox9 - Jeff Wald)

FFToday's Take: Except for a brief time in Week 9, Thielen has been sidelined for more than a month with his hamstring injury. He's not returning to a very favorable matchup in the Los Angeles Chargers, but he needs to be put back into fantasy lineups if he is cleared to go. His return likely means Kyle Rudolph's usefulness as a fantasy tight end is about to come to an end.

Injury Adam Thielen listed as Doubtful
Unlikely to play in Week 14
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Dec 6, 4:00 pm

Minnesota Vikings
Adam Thielen is DOUBTFUL and Riley Reiff is QUESTIONABLE to play for #Vikings, team announces. (Andrew Krammer on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Thielin will likely be inactive on Sunday leaving Stefon Diggs the main option at wide receiver for Kirk Cousins. Diggs has disappointed in this role last week (4-25) but gets a decent matchup against the Lions who have given up the 10th most fantasy points to WRs.

Injury Adam Thielen not practicing Wednesday
Vikings get limited practice from Dalvin Cook
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Wed Dec 4, 5:55 pm

Minnesota Vikings
Ben Goessling (@GoesslingStrib) on Twitter: "The Vikings, who are effectively going through a walk through this afternoon, already issued their injury report. Adam Thielen, Riley Reiff and Linval Joseph did not practice; Dalvin Cook, Everson Griffen, Eric Wilson, Shamar Stephen and Harrison Smith were limited." (Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Lots of injuries looming for the Vikings, who lost a tough one to the Seahawks on MNF. Alexander Mattison should be on everyone's radar for Wek 14 if Cook can't go, and Diggs remains a lock-n-load WR1 if Thielen is out again.
