Running Backs
Here are some comments on the RB data:
- The Raiders, Chargers and Redskins defenses each accounted
for 3 of the optimal RB performances during the regular season,
or 9 of 24 total. At RB, there should be an opportunity to play
matchups, targeting a handful of weak run defenses during the
season.
- The poor defenses noted above helped players with low expectations,
like William Green (WK 6), Anthony Thomas (WK 9) and Troy Hambrick
(WK 9), perform at a level to earn a spot in the optimal lineup.
Instead of just starting stud RBs against weak defensives, consider
lesser RBs in these spots. You can probably rely on a Stud RB
more against an average defense, whereas a lesser RB needs the
extra help of a weak defense.
- Unlike the QB tables, there is a much bigger discrepancy in
total points for the finals between the Restricted and Unrestricted
tables for RB. Not to mention, the Restricted table has a number
of names you probably wouldn't be too confident in at that point
in the season with $250,000 on the line. Curtis Martin? Thomas
Jones? Jerome Bettis? This would lead me to believe it is much
more important to save some stud RB from regular season play
to do well in the finals.
- As with "regular" fantasy football, RB will be the key to
winning in tournament-style play.
