Chiefs restructure Sammy Watkins contract
1-year deal, $9 million base for 2020
By: Mike Krueger | Apr 3 2020, 5:01 am

The Chiefs have reached an agreement with Sammy Watkins on a new 1-year deal that will pay him a base of $9m for 2020 with an incentive package that can reach $16m, a source tells me. The move creates $5m in cap space for the Chiefs to operate this offseason. (Terez Paylor on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Watkins was set to cost $21 million against the cap this season which didn't work for the cap stressed Chiefs who know have 10 of 11 players on offense returning for the 2020 season. Watkins got off to a fast start in 2019, posting a 9-198-3 line in Week 1 but didn't score another touchdown in the regular season. He'll be a mid-to late-round option in redraft leagues.
