The Shot Caller's Report - Wk 2 Wide Receivers

Grab a Helmet

1) JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquise Brown vs. Philadelphia

With Rashee Rice out (suspension), Xavier Worthy almost surely out (dislocated shoulder) and Travis Kelce looking old these days, the job of catching Patrick Mahomes' passes will fall to Smith-Schuster and "Hollywood." Whichever receiver is covered by the Eagles No.2 CB (opposite Quinyon Mitchell), should be wide open. Dallas receivers certainly were in Week 1. Andy Reid and Mahomes will find them.

Keenan Allen

2) Keenan Allen @ Las Vegas (Mon)

It was like Allen had never left the Chargers. Despite spending last year in Chicago, Keenan and Justin Herbert were in sync all afternoon. He saw 10 targets and caught seven for 68 yards and a score. He and Ladd McConkey will be target hogs in 2025.

3) Kayshon Boutte @ Miami

In case you haven't been paying attention, Boutte has quietly become a viable fantasy option. His last four games have produced a 17.1 FPts/G average on 6.8 targets. Let other people talk about Stefon Diggs and Demario Douglas while you win the week with Boutte. Just another LSU product, a.k.a. "Wide Receiver University."

4) Bonus - Ja'Marr Chase will catch a touchdown pass on the Bengals first drive.

Grab some Pine

1) Keon Coleman @ New York Jets

Don't be fooled by the Week 1 explosion, everyone produced in the Week 1 "score-fest." This week he likely gets Sauce Gardner in coverage. That's a two-time All-Pro and 2022 DPOY cornerback. Coleman saw 11 targets in Week 1, but in this matchup he likely sees less than seven looks.

2) Quentin Johnston @ Las Vegas (Mon)

He's the third-best receiver on the Chargers behind Ladd McConkey and Keenan Allen. The 24.9 fantasy points he scored is a mirage in the desert. In 33 career games, he's scored over 20 points just four times. Yes, he is a lot better than the rookie who couldn't do anything right (5.5 FPts/G in 2023), but even in one of his career-best days, the other two wideouts saw more targets.

3) Michael Pittman Jr. vs. Denver

Patrick Surtain II. I was going to just stop there because that should be enough. But here is some more information. The Broncos allowed the wideouts just 12.7 fantasy points in Week 1. They allowed seven catches and 48 total yards. In 2024, Denver allowed the fewest touchdown passes to opposing wide receivers (11). Find another receiver.
