Grab a Helmet

Justice Hill vs PIT

Making his SCR debut in Week 17 is the electric rookie back for the Ravens. Harbaugh has already made it known that many starters will be rested this week, including the injured Mark Ingram. My guess is that with the unknown severity of Ingram’s calf injury, Baltimore will look to limit the work of main back-up Gus Edwards. This allows Hill to get some of the quality snaps he’s lacked all year as the 3rd stringer. Hill easily had his best game as a pro last week when Ingram went out, totaling 51 total yards and scoring his first NFL touchdown. With one of the lowest implied point totals this week at 38, look for the Ravens to feed the ball to their backs and get the regular season over as quickly as possible.

Joe Mixon vs CLE

Despite a hiccup last week Mixon has been one of the hottest runners in the second half of the season. The former Sooner just torched these same Browns in Week 14 to the tune of 186 total yards and a touchdown. Cleveland allows the 8th most fantasy points to running backs, and with the weekly circus atmosphere swirling around the team, a road game against a 1-14 opponent to end the year isn’t exactly the situation that inspires. Mixon only needs 24 rushing yards for his second straight 1,000-yard season so look for Cinci to feed him 20+ carries in this one.

Alvin Kamara @ CAR

Finally waking from his season-long slumber, Kamara had his best game since Week 3 with 110 total yards and two touchdowns last week against Tennessee. His 7.3 yards-per-carry average was his best since opening weekend and his two rushing scores doubled his season total! With a top-2 seed still on the line, I expect Peyton and the Saints to put their foot on the gas this week against their fading division rivals. Carolina has been a mess for over a month now, and still haven’t slowed anyone down in the run game. Kamara and the Saints keep it rolling this week, so get in while you can!

Marshawn Lynch vs SF

We go all crazy about being in “game shape” when guys miss a few weeks of summer practices, so what the heck can we expect from a guy who hasn’t played an NFL snap since Week 6 of the 2018 season? Running on fumes the last time he was on the field, I’m not sure what the Seahawks are expecting from their former franchise runner. It’s a great story, don’t get me wrong, but how could you possibly trust Lynch this week if you are playing in a fantasy championship? Sure, someone will YOLO the heck out of Lynch and by some miracle it will pay off, but other than a short yardage touchdown, can you expect more?

Melvin Gordon @ KC

With Gordon’s time in Los Angeles (San Diego) likely coming to an end this offseason, it’s anyone’s guess where the former 1st rounder will end up. Gordon never really got going on the ground this season after missing the first four games, tallying only one 100-yard game. The last two weeks have been dreadful (16 carries, 43 yards) with Gordon’s fantasy days being saved by a few short touchdowns and a heavy dose of dump offs. Explosive plays have been few and far between for Gordon as teammate Austin Ekeler has proved to be a much more efficient player. When the Chargers are in come-back mode Gordon is largely ignored, and that has a chance to happen this week against the Chiefs. If you made it to the championship you have to roll with him, but for DFS purposes I’m looking elsewhere in this backfield.

KC RBs vs LAC

Due to clarity rather than production, this backfield has been a fickle mess all season. With as many as five players playing meaningful snaps in the last few weeks, picking a guy to start requires a degree in precognition! Last week McCoy was held out for “load management”, Spencer Ware got hurt, and Damien Williams was the guy to own. Does McCoy come back to prepare for the playoffs in a game the Chiefs will need to win for seeding purposes? Does rookie Darwin Thompson get a dozen surprise touches? At this point, you probably have to play the guy you have, but for all non season-long formats, stay away from this mess.
