| After losing Sam Darnold, the Vikings were forced to put all their eggs in one basket when they made McCarthy the 2025 starter. Instead of a five-star omelet, everyone ended up with egg on their face as McCarthy was injured, or brutally dreadful for most of the season. Questionable leadership qualities, a distributing lack of touch and finesse in his passes, and turnover proclivity, all contributed to last season's disaster. He's been a bonafide winner in his pre-NFL career, but he's got quite an uphill battle to pass Murray on the depth chart. Even if he can manage to do that, he's waiver wire fodder at best.

FFToday's Take: According reports, neither Murray or J.J. McCarthy have been that impressive during camp, but making this announcement now gives Murray the opportunity to take the majority of reps with the No.1 offense moving forward. McCarthy has struggled with accuracy and turnovers during his short career and it was unrealistic to think he'd turn things around this off-season. The Vikings get GB, @CHI, @TB, MIA to start the season.
