With Michael Pittman Jr. now in Pittsburgh, Alec Pierce becomes the new alpha dog in Indianapolis' receiver room. The Colts appear comfortable with that transition, signing the former Cincinnati Bearcat to a lucrative four-year, $116 million contract this offseason. That's a significant investment for a player who had never topped 47 receptions in a season before finally eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark in Year 4 (1,003 receiving yards). It's worth noting, however, that Pierce led the NFL with an eye-popping 21.3 yards per reception -- nearly four yards better than the next closest player, Christian Watson (17.5).
Fantasy managers remain somewhat lukewarm on Pierce (ankle) entering draft season. His lack of consistent, high-end production, uncertainty surrounding Daniel Jones' return from injury, and the absence of another proven receiving threat to draw defensive attention all contribute to the skepticism. Even so, Pierce offers intriguing upside as a WR3 or flex option who could deliver WR2 production in favorable matchups.

Colts active Alec Pierce off PUP list One step closer to returning to practice By: Mike Krueger | Thu Aug 27, 10:19 am

| | Colts taking WR Alec Pierce off PUP today, per source. Been rehabbing after surgery on left ankle/heel in March. (Mike Chappell on X)
FFToday's Take: HC Shane Steichen said earlier in the week that Pierce was gearing up to practice soon. This move paves the way for that to occur. He's got roughly two weeks to get ready for Week 1. Given injury situation and the addition of Keenan Allen, Pierce is currently being drafted around WR44, Pick 97 in half-PPR leagues. That should climb if more positive reports come in the next two weeks.

| Colts sign veteran WR Keenan Allen One-year deal By: Mike Krueger | Mon Aug 17, 10:36 pm

| | The #Colts are signing 6x Pro Bowl WR Keenan Allen to a 1-year deal worth up to $8.32M, multiple sources tell me.
A big-time weapon for Daniel Jones, as Allen reunites with HC Shane Steichen from their days together with the Chargers in a deal done by @ZekeSandhu of @KlutchSports. (Jordan Schultz on X)
FFToday's Take: With Alec Pierce (ankle) yet to practice this pre-season, the Colts are brining in wide receiver help in the form of 34-year-old Keenan Allen. He will fight for targets with Josh Downs and TE Tyler Warren in an offense led by Daniel Jones who is coming off a December Achilles injury. Once Pierce gets on the field, it will likely be Allen coming in on three wide receiver sets.

| Alec Pierce placed on PUP list to begin camp Ankle injury By: Mike Krueger | Mon Jul 27, 4:41 pm

| | Alec Pierce, who is moving into a much larger role as Indy's #1 WR, was placed on the PUP list to start camp by the #colts. He's recovering from ankle surgery that took place in March and had a 4-6 month recovery. (James Palmer on X)
FFToday's Take: We figured this would happen. Pierce can be removed the list at any point during camp. HC Shane Steichen indicated a few days ago that Pierce will "get ramped up during training camp." Being paid like a true No.1 receiver, we're expecting Pierce's role to grow in the offense this season. However, missing minicamp and a portion of training camp could lead to a slow start once the regular season begins.
