Isaiah Likely finally gets his chance to escape from Mark Andrews' shadow as he lands with a new team in New York. Likely disappointed in 2025, catching just 27 passes for 307 yards and one touchdown after showing signs of serious upside in 2023 and 2024. That didn't stop him from being a highly-desired free agent, though, and the Giants made the financial commitment to him of a three-year, $40 million contract. That should tell fantasy managers that they're looking for him to make an impact immediately.
We've seen flashes of elite receiving ability from Likely in the past, most notably his explosive games filling in for Andrews in past years. Likely's athletic profile suggests he can be a mismatch nightmare against linebackers and safeties; however, this is a crowded offense with an abundance of receiving options, both young and old. Managers will need to temper expectations, especially early on, as he acclimates to a new offense.
While the contract indicates the Giants view him as a major piece of the offense, the roster presents some potential roadblocks, both at wide receiver and with Theo Johnson, who is also an athletic tight end on his rookie deal. Johnson actually delivered 528 yards and five touchdowns this past season, which was just his second year in the NFL. While the acquisition of Likely shows that the team is not entirely convinced of Johnson's long-term potential, he's still good enough to take some volume away from Likely. Like many running back backfields, and even Likely's previously crowded tight end room in Baltimore have shown, it's difficult for any one player to stand out as an elite, every-week fantasy asset when there's this much skill position depth on the roster. The most likely outcome here is that Likely and Johnson will cannibalize each other's production in an offense that already wants to spread the ball around.
Feel free to draft Likely late as an upside TE2, but don't rely on him out of the gate. He might have some splash weeks thanks to his raw talent and Jaxson Dart's willingness to push the ball, but his target share is capped. He's a touchdown-dependent streaming option rather than a set-it-and-forget-it starter.
