Whether he helped lessen the loss of Chubb, or suddenly gave you an instant season long RB2, Ford saved plenty of fantasy squads in 2023. Though he certainly lacked the consistency and week-winning potential of Chubb, Ford held the running game together even after late season injuries decimated the offensive line. He proved solid in the receiving game as well with 44 receptions, and his 9 total touchdowns gave him plenty of value across the fantasy scoring landscape. It's going to be quite some time until Chubb returns to full-volume duty, so Ford should be counted on for at least some early season work. The offseason additions of D'Onta Foreman and Nyheim Hines are depth signings, and despite some recent trade rumblings, Ford is an important piece on a win-now team. Worth a mid/late-round pick for his early season value, just be prepared for a diminished role as Chubb returns to form.

Nick Chubb inching closer to a return Browns plan to open RB's 21-day practice window By: Doug Orth | Mon Sep 30, 5:00 pm
| | Browns HC Kevin Stefanski said the team is opening the practice window for RB Nick Chubb. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)
FFToday's Take: Chubb suffered what was thought to be a potential career-ending injury in Week 2 of last season, so it is great news that he appears to have a legitimate shot at contributing to the team at some point before midseason. Expectations obviously need to be tempered based on the seriousness of his injury and the time he has missed, but he has a chance to return RB2 value if he can come reasonably close to picking up where he left off. Of course, that assumes the offensive line gets healthy at some point as well. Jerome Ford will continue to do most of the heavy lifting in Cleveland until Chubb is ready.
| Browns bring back RB D'Onta Foreman RB was released during roster cuts By: Mike Krueger | Thu Aug 29, 5:22 pm
| | Browns sign RB D'Onta Foreman, add five to practice squad. (ClevelandBrowns.com)
FFToday's Take: The Browns cut Foreman as they paired down their roster to their initial 53 players. They indicated at that time that would be bringing him back into the mix. Foreman will join Jerome Ford and Pierre Strong Jr. as the Browns running back trio when they face the Cowboys in Week 1. Ford holds the most fantasy value of the group while Nick Chubb (knee) sits at least the first four weeks.
| Nick Chubb expected to remain on PUP list to start season Will miss at least the first four games of the season By: Mike Krueger | Mon Aug 26, 8:19 am
| | Cleveland is expected to leave Nick Chubb on the Physically Unable to Perform List, which means he is ineligible to be active during the first four games of the season, per league sources. (Adam Schefter on X)
FFToday's Take: We were expecting this to take place but now we know for sure Chubb will miss at least the first four games. We're likely to get some kind of committee between Jerome Ford, D'Onta Foreman (ribs) and Pierre Strong Jr. (ribs) with Ford being the lead back and the most fantasy relevant. Both Foreman and strong are currently dealing with rib issues.
