Rhamondre Stevenson enters his sixth season with New England and continues to offer reliable production despite sharing backfield duties with TreVeyon Henderson.
Even while operating in a committee throughout 2025, Stevenson averaged 12.9 fantasy points per game, largely due to his heavy involvement in tight game situations. The postseason highlighted just how Mike Vrabel values his size and experience. In the AFC Championship game against Denver, Stevenson recorded 25 touches compared to just three for Henderson -- it wasn't just that the Patriots gave him RB1 snaps, he completely drowned out his teammate. A team riding the "hot hand" is nothing new, but that wasn't even the case here. Stevenson did it while averaging just 2.8 yards per carry. That trend continued into the Super Bowl where Stevenson again out-touched Henderson, albeit on not nearly as lopsided of a final statline.
The late-season volume surge demonstrates Stevenson's role as the team's most-trusted back, particularly in short-yardage and goal-line situations. Currently being selected multiple rounds behind Henderson, Stevenson presents a very similar scoring floor at a significantly cheaper draft cost. His lack of breakaway speed limits explosive home run plays, but consistent pass protection reps and high leverage touches secure his playing time and further guarantee his weekly floor. The price tag difference between these two backs really comes down to potential ceiling. While both backs will see significant touches in 2026, Henderson carries the higher individual ceiling and he's the one who has a real chance to break away as the true bell cow if they're both healthy here in 2026.
In an efficient offense driven by Drake Maye, goal-line opportunities will remain plentiful, giving Stevenson double-digit touchdown potential. Consider him a high-floor RB3 or Flex play who carries solid weekly standalone value regardless of how the surrounding backfield split evolves.

TreVeyon Henderson ruled out for season opener Ankle injury to sideline RB vs. Seattle on Wednesday night By: Doug Orth | Wed Sep 9, 3:20 am

| | Patriots listed RB TreVeyon Henderson as out for Wednesday night’s opener vs. the Seahawks due to his ankle injury. (ESPN - Adam Schefter)
FFToday's Take: It is not surprising to anyone who has been following this situation closely, but it is a bad start for fantasy managers who burned a fourth-round pick on Henderson in early drafts. He is usually falling into the seventh round in more recent drafts. Rhamondre Stevenson should be featured enough that he is worthy of being a fantasy RB2 despite the difficult matchup against the Seahawks. The bigger questions now are how soon Henderson returns and how quickly he can make up some ground on Stevenson.

| TreVeyon Henderson dealing with ankle injury Hasn’t practiced since Aug. 24th By: Mike Krueger | Sat Sep 5, 2:29 pm

| | RB TreVeyon Henderson (ankle) is not present for the media-access portion of Saturday’s practice. He hasn’t practiced since sustaining the injury Aug. 24.
The Patriots will submit their first injury report of the season later Saturday. (Mike Reiss on X)
FFToday's Take: Henderson was not put on the IR-Return list to start the season so we're not concerned about his long-term availability, but whether or not he's ready for Week 1 is another question. The Patriots play the Seahawks on Wednesday so we'll get an official injury report soon. Rhamondre Stevenson is shaping up to be the lead back. Corey Kiner is currently third on the depth chart.

| Patriots likely to employ split backfield 50-50 split for Rhamondre Stevenson, TreVeyon Henderson? By: Doug Orth | Mon Aug 17, 5:50 pm

| | As TreVeyon Henderson enters his second season, it looks like he’ll share the backfield with Rhamondre Stevenson pretty evenly.
The Patriots want to take advantage of Henderson’s big-play ability, but they believe in Stevenson a bit more to get what is blocked in front of him. So the guess is that Stevenson will be in for short-yardage situations and early downs, and that Henderson may check in for second- and third-and-long situations as long as his pass blocking holds up. (The Athletic - Chad Graff)
FFToday's Take: As The Athletic's Chad Graff suggests, Henderson will need to prove he can hold up in pass pro more than he did a year ago. It seems reasonable to assume Stevenson will enjoy a slight edge in carries and Henderson a slight advantage in catches if both stay healthy all season. That assumes Henderson earns the coaches' trust to protect Drake Maye. Both players can make strong cases to be low-end RB2s when they are healthy, and both have RB1 upside if the other misses time.
