2021 Outlook
Depth Chart
Alexander Mattison is one of the most significant running back handcuffs in fantasy football. Yes, he will sit and rot on your bench while Cook takes 80% of the running back touches, but when Cook gets dinged up, as he's been known to do, Mattison can step in and give you a chunk of that production back. Annually one of the most hyped back-ups in the NFL due to his talent and role when forced into starter's snaps, Mattison is a must have for Cook owners, especially in this lengthened season.

News From The Past 90 Days
Injury Dalvin Cook will have MRI Monday on injured shoulder
Injured in 3rd quarter
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Nov 28, 8:03 pm

Minnesota Vikings
Vikings’ RB Dalvin Cook scheduled Monday to undergo an MRI on his shoulder injury. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Cook finished Week 12 with a 10-39-0 rushing line and a 6-64-0 receiving line, leaving in the 3rd quarter with a shoulder injury. If he were to miss time, Alexander Mattison would be an RB1 option against the Lions in Week 13.

Injury Dalvin Cook limited on Wednesday
Vikings have a bye in Week 7
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Oct 13, 3:40 pm

Minnesota Vikings
Dalvin Cook listed as a limited participant in today's practice. DNPs: Pierce (elbow), Barr (knee), Adam Thielen (foot), Justin Jefferson (ankle), Griffen (rest), Alexander Mattison (shoulder), Ellefson (knee) (Andrew Krammer on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: A lot of rest today for key offensive players in Minnesota. Cook missed practice most of last week before being declared Inactive on gameday in Week 5. With Minnesota having a bye in Week 7, we'll get a better idea of Cook's availability later in the week.

Injury Dalvin Cook is Inactive for Week 5
Alexander Mattison will get the start
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Oct 10, 11:30 am

Minnesota Vikings
Dalvin Cook is INACTIVE vs. Detroit. Alexander Mattison will get the start. Cook went thru an on field warm up pregame after being listed as questionable. He would’ve split carries had he been active, the same plan MIN used last week, but the Vikings opted to rest him. (Vikings on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: the Vikings opted to play it safe with Cook which means Mattison becomes an RB1 play against the Lions. Ameer Abdullah could see some work in a change of pace role.

Injury Dalvin Cook listed as questionable, gametime decision
Limited in practice on Friday
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Oct 8, 3:08 pm

Minnesota Vikings
#Vikings officially rule out nose tackle Michael Pierce (elbow) and receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette (toe) for Sunday against the Lions. RB Dalvin Cook is listed questionable; "probably" a game-time decision, Mike Zimmer said. He was limited today in his only practice of the week. (Andrew Krammer on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Nice word choice by coach Zimmer. "Probably" leaves room for the possibility that Cook isn't a gametime decision at all. Anyway, since the Vikings and Lions play a 1 PM Eastern, we'll know Cook's status 90 minutes before gametime if not sooner. Alexander Mattison would be an insta-play if Cook were to sit.

Injury Dalvin Cook misses practice on Thursday
Ankle injury
By: Mike Krueger | Thu Oct 7, 4:58 pm

Minnesota Vikings
Nick Vigil was upgraded to a full participant in Thursday’s practice. Dalvin Cook was dressed out, had a helmet and went thru individuals from what we saw but did not practice again today. (Courtney Cronin on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Cook was obviously limited last week with his ankle injury and ended up splitting work with Alexander Mattison rendering both unplayable in fantasy. In an ideal world, Cook would take this week off against the Lions and allow his ankle to heal. The Vikings have a bye in Week 7.

Injury Dalvin Cook unlikely to play, sprained ankle
Missed practice all week
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Sep 26, 7:10 am

Minnesota Vikings
As the week progressed, there was a less confident tone that Vikings RB Dalvin Cook would play Sunday vs. Seattle due to his sprained ankle, per source. Cook didn’t practice all week, it’s early in season, and going into pre-game warmups it was considered “unlikely” he plays. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: The Vikings and Seahawks don't play until 4:25 pm so we'll have to wait for the Inactives to come out to be sure, but it sounds like Alexander Mattison will get the start at RB for Minnesota. Mattison vaults into RB2 territory with RB1 upside.

Injury Dalvin Cook questionable, gametime decision
Ankle injury
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Sep 24, 2:57 pm

Minnesota Vikings
Updated #Vikings injury story. Mike Zimmer said RB Dalvin Cook ended up doing "some" work in practice but said "We'll see" if he plays Sunday. “He’s doing much better,” Zimmer said. He's questionable & LB Anthony Barr (knee), T Christian Darrisaw (groin), CB Harrison Hand (hamstring) are out. . (Chris Tomasson on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Cook missed practice Wednesday and Thursday. This sounds like a situation we should be alerted to by Adam Schefter or Ian Rapoport on Sunday. Alexander Mattison would jump in value if Cook misses. Stay tuned...
