|Injuries and behavioral issues forced Fournette to play in just eight games last season, effectively torpedoing the seasons of those unfortunate owners who used a first-round draft pick last summer on former LSU star.
In those eight games, Fournette averaged just 3.3 yards per carry, but he did reach the end zone six times and posted 185 yards on 22 receptions. Fournette has yet to reach the 4.0 YPC plateau in the NFL, and he continues to be a risk due to possible injuries and being a knucklehead on and off the field.
Those risks have pushed his draft stock from a consensus late-round pick in 2018 to a third or fourth-round value in 2019. Volume and the ability to score touchdowns makes Fournette a nice RB2 target for owners willing to take the risk, and the lack of any real competition on the depth chart leads us to believe he will garner a sizable percentage of the Jaguar carries.
|Leonard Fournette reawakened?|
Slimmed down from 247 pounds to 228
By: Doug Orth | Thu Aug 29, 7:00 pm
|Leonard Fournette's quest for happiness in football has made him look inward like never before. This entire offseason has been a reawakening. He exiled himself to Wyoming for three months and trained like his career depended on it. He put his personal life under a microscope, cutting out all negative influences while still running toward, not away from, problems in New Orleans. He can change lives. To him, it's a calling. His weight dropped from 247 to 228. His mind cleared. (Bleacher Report - Tyler Dunne)|
FFToday's Take: Fournette looked good in his first and only action of the preseason, suggesting he isn't going to let his conditioning slip this time around after reportedly being in such great shape last year. If the Jaguars are getting the version of Fournette that existed at LSU, look out. Assuming he can stay healthy this year - always a big if with him - he's a great bet to lead the league in touches in what should be an improved offense in Jacksonville.
| Jaguars place Marqise Lee, Armstead on PUP list|
WR and rookie RB start camp on PUP
By: Mike Krueger | Tue Jul 23, 3:17 pm
|Jaguars place WR Marqise Lee, LT Cam Robinson and RB Ryquell Armstead on Physically Unable to Perform to start 2019 Training Camp.
Jaguars also sign first-year DL Lyndon Johnson to 90-man roster and assign OL Donnell Greene and LB Jake Ryan to reserve/non-football injury list (John Oehser on Twitter)|
FFToday's Take: Lee is expected to return at some point during camp which makes his draft value a little shaky. Lee is coming off an ACL injury suffered in the Jags third preseason game last season. Rookie running back Armstead missed minicamp with a hamstring injury. Alfred Blue should be considered the backup to Leonard Fournette until Armstead can prove he's over his injury.
