| Adrian Peterson gets MRI done on ankle|
Washington faces Vikings on Thursday
By: Doug Orth | Mon Oct 21, 5:30 pm
|Redskins running back Adrian Peterson underwent an MRI on an ankle this morning, per source. The results weren't yet known. Peterson suffered the injury in Sunday's 9-0 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. He rushed 20 times for 81 yards and fumbled once. Peterson clearly wants to be ready for this week: The Redskins play at his former team, Minnesota, on Thursday. (ESPN - John Keim)|
FFToday's Take: Peterson handled another heavy workload (20 carries) in Week 8 and has 45 touches in two games under interim head coach Bill Callahan, but this is the second different injury in as many weeks he has sustained. The 34-year-old figures to be highly motivated to play on a short week against his former team (Minnesota Vikings), but only time will tell if he can. Wendell Smallwood would likely see the bulk of early-down work should Peterson be ruled out for Thursday.

Wendell Smallwood expected to be active

|The Redskins resurrected Adrian Peterson's career, then handed him a big new contract. And now, in his first game in 2019, he won't be on the field.
Sources say that Peterson is expected to be a surprise inactive as the Redskins play the Eagles today. Second-year back Derrius Guice will be the starter. "We feel like he can be a first, second and even a third down back," Gruden told reporters this week. "I think the offense, carries wise, will probably go through him, pretty much." (NFL.com)|
FFToday's Take: Peterson doesn't play special teams so his spot will be taken by Wendell Smallwood. Guice gets a bump on this news as he and Chris Thompson should handle the bulk of running back duties against the Eagles. However, the matchup isn't great leaving Guice with a ceiling of a low-end RB2.
