2019 Outlook
Depth Chart
While Burton finished in the top-10 amongst tight ends, I think it says more about the lack of quality at the position than the quality of first season he had in Chicago. By most metrics I'd say Burton was a fantasy disappointment. A trendy breakout pick last offseason after signing with the Bears, Burton was virtually invisible after a breakout game against New England in Week 7. After going for 9-126-1 in that game, Burton failed to register more than 40 yards or 5 receptions in a game the rest of the season. Many fantasy teams had to scramble to find a replacement after likely banking on Burton to be a difference maker. Nagy failed to find a meaningful role for Burton, as most of the short passing work went to Tarik Cohen out of the backfield. The scheme is tight end friendly, and I do believe in Burton's talent, and that's why I feel a rebound is coming in 2019. I do think Chicago will make it a point to get Burton more involved consistently, and with the fantasy depth at this position being so poor, Burton is a sure bet to be in the TE1 conversation yet again.

Bears add veteran TE Jimmy Graham
two-year deal, $9 million guaranteed
By: Mike Krueger | Mon Mar 16, 5:42 pm

Chicgao Bears
Jimmy Graham to the Bears on a two-year, $16 million deal, including $9 million guaranteed, per source. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Graham was recently released by Green Bay and will now try to carve out a role in Chicago. Graham is on the downside of his career but the Bears are looking for a playmaker at an important position in their offense. The Bears still hold Trey Burton and Adam Shaheen on the roster, neither of which have been able to stay healthy.

Bears to pursue TE Austin Hooper
Bidding could reach $12 million per year
By: Mike Krueger | Fri Feb 28, 7:00 am

Chicgao Bears
Despite very limited salary-cap space and a highly paid tight end already on their roster, a source said they are planning to pursue Falcons two-time Pro Bowl tight end Austin Hooper when free agency opens next month. With $26 million in space and few major holes to address, the Bears could make that happen, but they’re a long shot. Hooper is in such high demand - he’s 25 and was top five at his position last season - that bidding could reach $12 million per year. “This offense, a lot of it goes through the tight end,” coach Matt Nagy said. “We’re exploring every avenue.” (Chicago Sun Times)

FFToday's Take: It's clear the Bears want to use the tight end position as a focal point in their offense much like Nagy was used to in Kansas City but the injury woes to Trey Burton have limited their ability to do so. If the Bears are unable to land Hooper they could look to Eric Ebron.

Bears pick up TE Demetrius Harris
One year deal
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Feb 19, 8:00 pm

Chicgao Bears
The #Bears have added a free agent before free agency begins, agreeing to terms on a 1-year deal with former #Browns TE Demetrius Harris, sources say. The athletic Harris spent time with coach Matt Nagy when both were in Kansas City, as Chicago begins to upgrade the TE position. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Harris is far off the fantasy radar unless he becomes a starter in Chicago. Even then the Bears passing attack only allows for an inconsistent TE2 in fantasy. Head coach Matt Nagy is familiar with Harris after the two spent time together in Kansas City. Trey Burton and Adam Shaheen struggled to stay on the field last season playing a combined 15 games.
