Frank Gore to help lessen Le'Veon Bell's load
Jets plan to give 37-year-old more than a bit role
By: Doug Orth | Aug 17 2020, 4:20 pm

Le'Veon Bell is expected to remain the Jets' No. 1 back, but the plan is to lessen his load by utilizing Frank Gore, who has more rushing yards (6,508) since turning 30 than any running back in NFL history. They also have rookie La'Mical Perine, a fourth-round pick from Florida. "I know the situation here, too," Gore said. "We have a great back in Le'Veon who has done great things and still can play this game. I know that he's our lead dog. My goal is to do whatever it takes when my number is called to help this team be successful." (ESPN - Rich Cimini)

FFToday's Take: This is just the latest in a series of reports this offseason that Bell will not be the workhorse he was last year. It should be noted he led the Colts in rushing in 2017 while keeping Marlon Mack at an arm's length, the Dolphins in 2018 (under Gase's watch) with Kenyan Drake still around and paced the Bills in carries in 2019 despite the presence of Devin Singletary. Gore could easily steal 100 touches and make Bell little more than a middling RB2 in 2020.
