Dynasty Buy, Sell, Stash After Mike Evans Signs With The 49ers

By Dustin Ludke | 3/13/26

Mike Evans has signed with the San Francisco 49ers. It's a shock to see Evans leave the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after spending his entire 13-year career there, but the landing spot is fascinating for fantasy purposes. Both Evans and the 49ers are clearly eyeing another Super Bowl run.

San Francisco has been searching for the right combination of receivers ever since breaking up the Deebo Samuel/Brandon Aiyuk duo. Adding Evans gives the offense a proven red-zone weapon and veteran presence as the team continues to reload around its core. The 49ers made the playoffs last season and now find themselves in an arms race within the NFC West with the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams.

With Mike Evans heading to San Francisco, which players should dynasty managers buy, sell, and stash?

Buy: TE Jake Tonges, SF

The addition of Evans signals that the 49ers are firmly in win-now mode. Evans is an older receiver who has battled injuries over the past two seasons, and the team is already dealing with another injury concern at tight end with George Kittle.

Early reports suggest Kittle could return around Week 5, which creates a short-term production window for Jake Tonges. Tonges is currently a restricted free agent, and unless he receives a significant offer elsewhere, the expectation is that the 49ers will match to keep him in-house.

Evans' presence should also help open the middle of the field. As a receiver who frequently commands safety help and double coverage, Evans can create opportunities for tight ends underneath.

We've already seen Tonges produce in this offense. In games last season where he recorded at least one catch, he scored a touchdown in five of nine contests.

At 26 years old, Tonges is still a young player. With George Kittle (32), Mike Evans (32), and Christian McCaffrey (29) all approaching the later stages of their careers, the 49ers will eventually need to get younger around their core.

Given Tonges' familiarity with the offense and the early-season opportunity while Kittle recovers, he's a cheap dynasty asset who could provide immediate short-term production and potentially earn a longer-term role.

Chrisitan McCaffrey

Sell: RB Christian McCaffrey, SF

There's no denying that when healthy, Christian McCaffrey is arguably the best fantasy running back in football. He's proven that time and time again. However, he will turn 30 years old in June, which is always a warning sign for dynasty managers.

The addition of Evans could also mean a greater emphasis on the outside passing game and fewer targets for McCaffrey. Pass-catching has always been a major component of his fantasy production.

Evans gives the 49ers their best outside receiver since Deebo Samuel in 2024. During the seasons when Samuel was heavily involved in the offense, McCaffrey averaged 5.3 targets per game. Last season, that number jumped to 7.5. Even a small dip in receiving work could push McCaffrey from the elite fantasy tier into the next group of running backs.

McCaffrey can still be a top fantasy option this season, but that current value creates an opportunity for dynasty managers. Moving him now could allow you to acquire multiple productive assets. In many cases, you could trade McCaffrey for a running back capable of producing 75–80% of his output while also gaining additional long-term pieces.

Dynasty success is often about maximizing value and extending your competitive window, and this may be the last opportunity to extract peak value from McCaffrey.

Deep Stash: WR Jacob Cowing, SF

The 49ers have quietly been reshaping their pass-catching group over the past two seasons, starting with the selections of Ricky Pearsall and Jacob Cowing in the draft.

While Pearsall has received more attention so far, there are reasons for dynasty managers to stash Cowing. The former fourth-round pick was a highly productive college receiver but missed all of last season with a hamstring injury, which has driven his dynasty value extremely low. He should return this season with an opportunity to carve out a role in the offense.

With Jauan Jennings and Kendrick Bourne no longer on the roster, additional snaps and targets are available. The 49ers will likely deploy Evans and Pearsall in two-receiver sets, leaving Cowing as a candidate to handle slot duties.

There's also injury upside to consider. Both Evans and Pearsall have missed time recently, and over the past two seasons they have combined to miss 26 games.

If injuries strike again, Cowing could find himself stepping into meaningful snaps. For dynasty managers, he's exactly the type of low-cost stash worth adding now while his value remains minimal.

With Evans joining the 49ers in pursuit of another championship, the offense should remain productive and sustain drives. If Cowing earns even a modest role, increased snap share and target opportunities could quickly turn him into a useful dynasty asset.
