TE Receiving TDs
This data should help you assess what players to target or avoid
if your league includes bonuses for distance TDs. This table shows
receiving TDs by distance (as a percentage, and number) for a select
number of TEs. For comparison, it also breaks down the TD-distance
for ALL TEs. Data is from the 2001-2004 regular season
games.
Here are some interesting points to note from the historic data:
- Note Marcus Pollard and Dallas Clark combined for an impressive 29 TDs since
2001 (Clark was a rookie in 2003). With Pollard now in Detroit, Clark is someone to
seriously think about as a potential breakout TE candidate. Mitigating factors to
consider: Clark may be required to block more, the emergence of Brandon Stokley and the
development of TE Ben Hartsock.
- Alge Crumpler can get downfield with almost one-quarter of his TDs from beyond 40 yards.
- Bubba Franks is a forgotten man until the Packers get inside the 20.
- Looking at the results for the big name guys, it is rare they score from beyond
40. That is just the nature of the position. If your league doesn't start handing out
bonus points until that yardage marker or longer, it should have little impact on your TE decisions.
