BUF signs DE Mark Anderson -- Wed Mar 21 9:40 pm --
Bills continue to bolster bottom-ranked pass rush | First, Mario Williams. Now, Mark Anderson. The Buffalo Bills weren't kidding when suggesting how much they wanted to improve the pass rush this offseason. The Bills on Wednesday signed Anderson, their second significant free-agent splash in less than a week. Anderson's agent told ESPNBoston.com's Mike Reiss the deal is for four years and a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press it is potentially worth $27 million and includes $8 million guaranteed. The sixth-year defensive end had 10 sacks with the New England Patriots last season. (ESPN)
FF Today's Take: Free agency this offseason has turned into a nightmare for AFC East starting quarterbacks, minus Buffalo's very own Ryan Fitzpatrick of course. Tom Brady, Mark Sanchez and whoever ends up starting for the Miami Dolphins will encounter a significantly tougher task when they face the Bills' much improved pass rush in 2012.
| | Mario Williams heavily pursued by BUF -- Wed Mar 14 8:00 pm --
Star pass rusher has spent the past two days in Buffalo | Prized free-agent defensive end Mario Williams remained in Buffalo for a second straight day contemplating whether to sign with the Bills. And his fiance is now in town, too. Three Buffalo TV stations happened upon Williams at the Buffalo International Airport on Wednesday, where he told WIVB that he was there to pick up his fiance. The former Houston Texans star pass-rusher then said “we’ll see,” when asked if her arrival was considered a good sign regarding his negotiations with the Bills. (Yahoo Sports)
FF Today's Take: The 27-year-old former first overall pick is a quarterback's worst nightmare. The Bills are looking to add Williams to help shore up a pass rush that was tied for 25th in the NFL with just 29 sacks in 2011.
| | Seahawks interested in Mario Williams -- Wed Feb 29 5:40 pm --
Seattle hopes to sign star free agent to bolster pass rush | The Seahawks are one of the main teams going after star defensive end Mario Williams, according to ESPN’s John Clayton. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft and a two-time Pro Bowler, Williams has 53 sacks in his six-year career with the Houston Texans. But the 27-year-old, who will be a free agent on March 13, missed 11 games last season due to a torn pectoral. Nevertheless, Seattle needs a pass-rusher — and Williams has a proven record of sacking and pressuring the opposing quarterback. (Seattle Post-Intelligencer)
FF Today's Take: The addition of an explosive end like Williams would certainly shore up the Seahawks' lagging pass rush. Seattle ranked 19th in sacks and 27th in forced fumbles.
