2011 Outlook
Depth Chart
After posting a career year in 2009, Schaub was subpar in 2010 as he suffered with Andre Johnson missing time, tight end Owen Daniels struggling to recover from a torn ACL, and the team’s rushing attack improving dramatically with the emergence of Arian Foster. Schaub’s passing stats dropped by 401 yards and he threw for five fewer touchdowns, going from 29 to 24. On the plus side, he remained healthy for the second year in a row, once again starting all 16 games for the Texans. In 2011, Daniels figures to be much improved, and Schaub should benefit if he and Johnson can avoid the injury bug. While a return to his 2009 form seems unlikely with Foster playing a major role, Schaub remains a solid fantasy starter. Consider him a notch below the big seven at quarterback and a good bet to repeat his 2010 production, with an outside chance to match his outstanding 2009 season.

Injury Texans not interested in Favre     -- Sun Nov 27 9:00 pm --

"Don't want to bring the circus to town"
The Texans didn’t call “retired” quarterback Brett Favre two weeks ago, after starting quarterback Matt Schaub suffered a season-ending foot injury. Now that backup Matt Leinart is feared to be lost for the season with an apparent broken collarbone, will the Texans call Favre? Peter King of Sports Illustrated explained during Football Night In America that Texans G.M. Rick Smith doesn’t envision pursuing Favre. Smith said that the Texans likely won’t be interested. “I don’t want to bring the circus to town,” Smith told King. (Pro Football Talk)

FF Today's Take: We hate to even mention this story, but when a team like the Texans are nearing their first-ever playoff berth, they can get desperate. Favre told King via text message that the future Hall of Famer isn’t interested in returning and also said that he hasn’t thrown a football in a month. It is noteworthy, however, that Houston did work out Jeff Garcia last week.
Injury Leinart suffers serious shoulder injury     -- Sun Nov 27 8:10 pm --

Replaced by rookie T.J. Yates
If the Houston Texans are going to make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history, they might have to do it with their third-string quarterback. Matt Leinart injured his throwing shoulder on a hard hit from DE Jeremy Mincey late in the second quarter, overshadowing Houston’s 20-13 victory against the offensively inept Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. The Texans already lost starter Matt Schaub for the season with a right foot injury. Now, they are down to T.J. Yates and newly signed Kellen Clemens. Leinart and Schaub stood next to each other for the final snaps, Leinart in a sling and Schaub in a walking boot. (Washington Post)

FF Today's Take: Yates is a fifth-round rookie from North Carolina who was regarded by some as the highest-upside QB prospect that didn't go in the first two rounds in April. He'll have the benefit of a healthy Andre Johnson and a fine running game, but his fantasy upside is extremely limited as Houston will look to protect him about as much as it tried to protect Leinart.
Injury Andre Johnson expects to play Sunday     -- Fri Nov 25 6:50 pm --

Texans WR nearly fully recovered from hamstring injury
The Houston Texans might be without quarterback Matt Schaub for the rest of the season, but it's likely they'll get back the services of two key players for Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars as wideout Andre Johnson and defensive back Danieal Manning are probable for the game. (NFL.com)

FF Today's Take: The return of Andre Johnson will most certainly make life easier for quarterback Matt Leinart, who is making his first start since the 2009 season. Johnson was a stud even before Matt Schaub was throwing him footballs, so expect the shifty receiver to produce down the stretch despite having a new quarterback.
Injury Foot injury ends Schaub's season     -- Wed Nov 23 12:19 pm --

Texans to sign QB Kellen Clemens
The Houston Texans will place quarterback Matt Schaub on injured reserve and sign former Jets backup Kellen Clemens, according to a league source. (NFL.com)

FF Today's Take: There had been some hope that Schaub would be able to return this season but that door is now closed. Matt Leinart gets the start on the road against the Jags this week.
Injury Matt Schaub not done for season?     -- Tue Nov 15 8:10 pm --

Texans QB yet to pack it in for the year
It remains up in the air whether Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub is out for the season due to a foot injury. "Nothing definitive yet," a source told Scout. (Scout.com)

FF Today's Take: Hope is slim in Houston but they aren't ready to declare Schaub OUT. Schaub will certainly miss this week with Matt Leinart getting the start. Beyond that is anyone's guess. The smart money is on Schaub landing on IR before too long.
Injury Report: Schaub done for season     -- Mon Nov 14 11:45 pm --

Lis franc injury
Texans quarterback Matt Schaub is out for the season with a lis franc injury. Matt Leinart from here on in. (Adam Schefter on Twitter)

FF Today's Take: Another big loss for the Texans, who have been without Andre Johnson since Week 5 and already placed OLB Mario Williams on IR. Leinart turned down the opportunity to compete for a starting job in Seattle in the offseason and now will get his shot to do so with a much more talented roster that should be getting Johnson back in Week 12. Expect the Texans to lean even more on the running game going forward.
Injury Schaub out with foot injury     -- Mon Nov 14 4:00 pm --

QB will miss several weeks according to Kubiak
Houston Texans quarterback Matt Schaub has a significant foot injury that will force him to miss several weeks, according to coach Gary Kubiak. Kubiak said Schaub will be in a walking boot and will spend the bye week visiting specialists in several parts of the country. Matt Leinart will start against the Jaguars after the bye, Kubiak said. (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: The Texans have a bye this week but Matt Leinart will start in Week 12. This injury is a downer for Andre Johnson owners as his Leinart represents a clear step down in talent.
