2017 Outlook
Depth Chart
It's either suspensions to high impact skill position players, or lower body injuries that conspire to wreck Roethlisberger's fantasy upside. His annual injury cost him three games last season which contributed to a very mediocre fantasy season.

Despite finishing as the 17th overall scorer in standard leagues, Big Ben was 7th overall with a 22.5 fantasy points per game average. His monster games in Weeks 4, 5 and 10 show that he's capable of winning weeks by himself, but his poor 2nd half (16.5 FPts/G) likely killed his fantasy owners in the long run.

After lightly entertaining retirement thoughts, Ben is back to captain what should be one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL. For the first time since 2014 (barring something goofy in the next few weeks), Pittsburgh is going to open the season with all of their Killer B's (Brown, Bryant, and Bell) healthy and ready to roll. He's playing behind one of the best offensive lines in his career, and once again, his finish relies greatly on his ability to stay healthy. He's got an easy top-5 ceiling if he plays 16 games, or a QB2 floor if he misses time. With the return of Martavis Bryant, I'm more willing to gamble as Roethlisberger as my starter. Bryant gives the Steelers another big-play threat, and monster red-zone target. He's being picked as the 9th quarterback off the board in early drafts, and that's a spot I'd be happy to land him. Just be aware you'll have to prioritize your QB2 to protect from the injury that's likely to come.

Steelers expected to have new OC
Todd Haley on the way out of Pittsburgh
By: Mike Krueger | Wed Jan 17, 12:30 pm

Pittburgh Steelers
Sources: The #Steelers are allowing OC Todd Haley to walk now that he’s out of his contract. Pittsburgh expected to have a new OC. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

FFToday's Take: Haley has been the Steelers OC since 2012 but rumors of Ben Roethlisberger and members of the coaching staff clashing with Haley have been circling for some time. The Steelers have been a top ten offense the last four seasons under Haley. Steelers QB coach Randy Fichtner could be promoted to OC.

Todd Haley done in Pittsburgh?
OC, Ben Roethlisberger reportedly at odds
By: Doug Orth | Mon Jan 15, 5:55 pm

Pittburgh Steelers
Todd Haley just finished the final year of his contract, and it is not common for a Steelers coordinator to return under those circumstances. They usually sign extensions before they enter that final year, unless there’s a reason not to. However, a Steelers source surmised that some biting words from Haley the day after the loss in New England prompted a frustrated Ben Roethlisberger to bring up retirement publicly. The coach and quarterback rarely talked along the sidelines, never huddled to discuss upcoming strategy while their defense was on the field. It came to a head when the coaches were unprepared to have a play ready when the Jesse James touchdown was overturned against New England. (Pittsburgh Post-Gazette)

FFToday's Take: It's always something on the offensive side of the ball in Pittsburgh during the offseason. QBs coach Randy Fichtner is reportedly a "strong candidate" to replace Haley if he isn't re-signed. By most accounts, Haley has been a boon to Big Ben's career, as Haley's emphasis on getting the ball out more quickly has helped Roethlisberger log full seasons three of the last five years (he was rested in Week 17 this year). It's hard to imagine the Steelers will find an upgrade on Haley.

Roethlisberger wants to return in 2018
"I look forward to next year with those guys"
By: Mike Krueger | Sun Jan 14, 11:00 pm

Pittburgh Steelers
"I definitely have a desire to play football. I love this game. I love these guys. It's tough, it stings, you hate to lose at home. I feel bad because I feel like I let the fans down, let my teammates down, Roethlisberger said following the Steelers loss to the Jaguars in the AFC divisional round of the playoffs. "I don't know about contracts and whose coming back but I know the guys up front are, and that makes it good for me, so I look forward to next year with those guys." (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Ben Roethlisberger reportedly contemplated retirement last off-season but shortly after their playoff loss to the Jaguars, the Steelers QB suggested he's looking forward to returning next season. Roethlisberger posted similar stats to 2016 tacking on an extra 15 fantasy points in 2017. Assuming Le'Veon Bell returns, Roethlisberger will be in the low-end QB1 discussion for 2018.

Big Ben, Le'Veon Bell expected to sit Week 17
Landry Jones, RBBC expected to rule the day vs. Browns
By: Doug Orth | Thu Dec 28, 5:45 pm

Pittburgh Steelers
Marcus Gilbert told reporters the Steelers won't play Ben Roethlisberger or Le'Veon Bell in finale vs. Cleveland. (Pittsburgh Tribune - Joe Rutter)

FFToday's Take: Since the Patriots seem unlikely to lose to the Jets and the Steelers can't fall below the No. 2 seed, Pittsburgh is making sure its main offensive assets will enter the divisional round healthy. Landry Jones makes for an uninspiring fantasy QB2 option this week, while Fitzgerald Toussaint and Stevan Ridley figure to share carries in place of Bell. In other words, don't look to Pittsburgh for much fantasy value in Week 17.
