|For all the talent Jonathan Stewart has flashed since coming into the league as a first-round draft choice in 2008, he has only surpassed the 1,000-yard rushing plateau once. Whether it was the presence of DeAngelo Williams or injuries, the fact remains that Stewart is a long shot on draft day. He's already dealing with a minor hamstring injury that occurred in training camp that will also keep him out of early preseason action. At this point in his career, Stewart is no longer the threat to steal carries that he once was, but his injury risk should have his fantasy stock bottomed out leading into the busiest fantasy draft weeks.
Comment: Stewart is injury free for the first time in a long time. He's got value in the late rounds of your draft.
| DeAngelo Williams misses practice Friday|

|Panthers RB DeAngelo Williams did not participate in portion open to media. Second day in a row. (Jonathan Jones)|
FFToday's Take: Williams missed practice yesterday making his status for Sunday very much in question. Jonathan Stewart would get the start and move into flex consideration if Williams can't go. Mike Tolbert would likely see some additions additional work as well.
| Newton, Stewart back practicing for Panthers|
Both expected to play in next preseason game

|Despite the wet conditions Sunday afternoon, Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and running back Jonathan Stewart were on the field with the first-team offense together. Rivera said Newton’s workload will increase now after he did little during Wednesday and Thursday’s practices. He sat out Friday’s exhibition, but Rivera said he expects Newton, Stewart and running back DeAngelo Williams to play next Sunday against the Chiefs.
FFToday's Take: Newton's been very limited after ankle surgery in March but he should be full go moving forward. Jonathan Stewart has missed the last couple weeks with a hamstring injury. His injury history is long and even if he makes it through the rest of the preseason healthy, he can't be valued as anything more than a late-round flier for your fantasy team.
| Jonathan Stewart out 1-2 weeks|
By: Doug Orth | Thu Jul 24, 3:20 pm
|Panthers GM Dave Gettleman said on Thursday that RB Jonathan Stewart injured his hamstring recently and will miss a week or two of camp while he recovers. The team doesn’t feel it is an overly serious injury, so Stewart will remain on the active roster as opposed to being placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list.
Gettleman also announced that G Edmund Kugbila will have back surgery in August and miss the entire season. The 2013 fourth-round pick missed his rookie season because of a knee injury. (Pro Football Talk)|
FFToday's Take: Stewart actually enjoyed a surgery-free offseason for the first time in years, so this setback hurts as he attempts to have his first meaningful fantasy season since 2011. He’s played just 15 games over the last two years while dealing with a variety of aches and pains. Kugbila technically won't be missed since he has yet to play a snap, but his loss further weakens what projects to be a below-average offensive line.
