Violating the league's substance abuse policy
Cincinnati Bengals free agent wide receiver Jerome Simpson will be suspended for three games under the league's substance abuse policy, an NFL source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. Simpson has visited the Minnesota Vikings and St. Louis Rams, and still is expected to sign with a team for this season. (ESPN)

FF Today's Take: Simpson got three games instead of four due to the circumstances of the case and because he had no prior criminal record. Simpson is expected to sign a one or two-year deal with either the Rams, Vikings or possibly Bengals in the near future.

Wideout will likely face discipline from the league
Former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Jerome Simpson was sentenced Thursday to 15 days in jail and three years' probation on a drug-related charge. Simpson pleaded guilty March 1 to the felony charge resulting from about 2 pounds of marijuana shipped to his northern Kentucky home in September. He was indicted on a felony charge of marijuana trafficking, but the plea agreement changed the charge to a prohibited act relating to controlled substances, also a felony. (AP)

FF Today's Take: Simpson is an unrestricted free agent but the Bengals are open to re-siging the wide receiver to a new contract. It's likely Simpson will face discipline from the league in the form of missed games for violating the league's substance abuse policy.
