2014 Outlook
Is Ray Rice the latest example of just how quickly high-volume, aging running backs can take a rapid statistical decline or is he simply a veteran runner coming off a down season? Hampered by an early-season leg injury and increased bulk, Rice looked nothing like the dynamic dual threat runner from just two seasons ago. Once considered a RB1 lock, Rice dashed the hopes of his fantasy owners last season with a 3.1 yards-per-carry average and only four touchdowns. Any positive offseason news concerning his health and conditioning was erased when he was arrested and subsequently suspended for two games because of a domestic violence incident. Marred by an ugly arrest and coming off a car wreck of a season, it's hard to be optimistic about Rice returning to fantasy dominance, but don't totally write off Rice as a fantasy asset in 2014.

Because of workload, competition and the two-game suspension, the days of Rice going for 1,800 total yards and 10+ touchdowns are likely gone. But remember, the Ravens running game was an abomination last season, not just Rice, and new coordinator Gary Kubiak knows a little something about moving the ball on the ground. The NFL is about talent and Ravens brass clearly thinks Rice has enough of it left, as they had all the reason in the world to cut him these last several months. Look for a rebound, as Rice tries to rectify a ghastly season and bring some positive results to his name and to his franchise. Be aware of his value and risk. Draft Rice as a low-tier RB2 or upper-tier RB3.

Comment: Rice has been suspended two games due to an off-field incident in February.

News From The Past 90 Days
Justin Forsett has career night on MNF
Ravens RB rushes for 182 yards and two scores
By: Antonio D'Arcangelis | Tue Nov 25, 8:48 am

Baltimore Ravens
On Monday night, before a national television audience, Justin Forsett's very first carry went for 38 yards and he finished with a career-high 182 yards rushing to lead playoff-contending Baltimore to a 34-27 victory over the New Orleans Saints. "It's crazy, man. You think about where I was this time last year, mostly doing a lot of scout team work and coming in (to play) every once in a while," Forsett said. "To just get the opportunity when I thought I would never get it again, it's a blessing." While Forsett is grateful to the Ravens for the chance they gave him, Baltimore (7-4) might say the feeling is mutual. No one really knew how the Ravens' running game would fare after Ray Rice was suspended and later released because of an assault on his wife that was captured by hotel video cameras. With five games still to go, Forsett has rushed for 903 yards and seven TDs while averaging 5.8 yards per carry. "The work he's putting in, the results he's getting and what he's doing for this team was huge," said Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco, who passed for 243 yards and a touchdown against New Orleans. "He's not letting the guy tackle him in the hole with his arms or anything like that. He's breaking those little things." (USA Today/AP)

FFToday's Take: Forsett's NFL career has come full circle, and fantasy owners who grabbed him in the wake of the Ray Rice scandal are very happy he's found so much success. He's an unquestioned RB1 and his prospects for 2015 and dynasty leagues keep getting better.

Ravens terminate contract of Ray Rice
NFL suspends him indefinitely after TMZ releases casino video
By: Doug Orth | Mon Sep 8, 2:30 pm

Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens terminated RB Ray Rice's contract on Monday, hours after TMZ released a video showing him punching his then-fiancee in the face in an Atlantic City hotel elevator in February. (ESPN)

FFToday's Take: Prior to Monday morning, the public had only had access to part of the casino video in which Rice was dragging his then-fiancee out of the elevator after the February incident. The new video really left the Ravens with no choice but to release the three-time Pro Bowler. From a football perspective, Baltimore will move forward with some combination of Bernard Pierce (benched in Week 1), Justin Forsett and Lorenzo Taliaferro.
