What a difference a year makes. After bursting onto the fantasy scene in 2009 with 2,041 total yards and eight touchdowns, Rice was considered a bit of a disappointment last season with 1,779 total yards and six touchdowns and with his fantasy ranking slipping from fourth to 11th at running back. Rice continued to lose touches in the red zone to Willis McGahee, and while McGahee likely won’t return in 2011, there is a decent chance that Le’Ron McClain will assume his role for the coming season. Add it all up and Rice is clearly a player better suited to PPR leagues, and those that generally do not have touchdown-heavy scoring formats. Barring injury, Rice is a lock to average more than 100 total yards per game, and he could easily vault back into the top five at running back if he can find the end zone on a more regular basis. Don’t be surprised if that happens in 2011.
Owner gives Flacco, Rice full support-- Wed Feb 1 11:00 pm -- Hopes duo can eventually lead team to a Super Bowl
Baltimore Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti enthusiastically supports Joe Flacco as his quarterback, has every intention of retaining unrestricted free agent running back Ray Rice and believes the window of opportunity for his team to reach the Super Bowl remains wide open.(SI)
FF Today's Take:Flacco had put forth some less than spectacular playoff performances heading into this year's postseason, but his 306-passing yard, two touchdown showing in the Ravens AFC championship loss was an encouraging sign that the 27-year-old is headed in the right direction.
Joe Flacco wants more credit-- Wed Jan 11 8:00 pm -- Ravens QB displeased with media
The Ravens' best sound bites on Wednesday media days are traditionally provided by linebackers Terrell Suggs or Ray Lewis, or running back Ray Rice. All three spoke to a large gathering of reporters today, but it was quarterback Joe Flacco who stole the show with uncharacteristic candor. "If you look at the teams that won, yeah you can look at the quarterbacks but that’s just because you guys, ESPN, everybody wants to pump them up as being the best quarterback that year. It’s really going to come down to what team is the best," Flacco said. "I’m sure if we win, I’ll have nothing to do with why we won according to you guys." (Baltimore Sun)
FF Today's Take:Flacco is a good quarterback, but he is far from ranking alongside upper-echelon NFL quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady and Drew Brees, all of whom have won the Super Bowl.
