Rookie WR turning heads at NYG camp-- Fri May 11 7:45 pm -- Giants hope 2nd round pick Randle can replace Manningham
The New York Giants boasted that Rueben Randle was NFL-ready after taking the LSU receiver in the second round of draft, and the kid didn't disappoint as the Super Bowl champions opened a rookie minicamp on Friday. Randle went up high to catch a pass along the sideline and later burned third-round draft choice Jayron Hosley on a ''go'' pattern in the morning session of Friday's camp. Granted it's just a minicamp littered with free agents and players on tryouts, but Randle showed signs that he might be able to replace Super Bowl hero Mario Manningham, who left to sign with the San Francisco 49ers as a free agent.(Yahoo Sports)
FF Today's Take:After spending their first two picks on a running back and a wide receiver respectively, the Giants are shaping up to be quite lethal offensively. Randle is a unique blend of size and speed and will be quite a mismatch for opposing defenses as they focus on shutting down New York's dynamic duo of Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz.
49ers sign WR Mario Manningham-- Sat Mar 17 8:00 pm -- Two-year contract
Wide receiver Mario Manningham, whose clutch catches keyed the New York Giants' Super Bowl run, agreed Saturday night to a two-year contract with the 49ers, ProFootballTalk.com first reported. Manningham, a four-year veteran, joins a 49ers receiving corps that added veteran Randy Moss on Monday.(San Jose Mercury News)
FF Today's Take:Manningham's fantasy value depends largely on who San Francisco's QB will be. If the 49ers land Peyton Manning it would do wonders for Crabtree, Moss and Manningham. Free agent Alex Smith is scheduled to visit Miami on Sunday.
WRs Manningham, Lloyd to visit 49ers-- Wed Mar 14 8:25 pm -- San Francisco pursuing top remaining free agent receivers
Former Giants WR Mario Manningham has a free-agent visit scheduled with the 49ers, a league source said Wednesday. Manningham has spent all four of his seasons with the Giants, who made him a third-round pick in the 2008 NFL Draft. He made a clutch catch in the Giants’ victory over the Patriots in Super Bowl XLVI, but finished the regular season with 523 receiving yards while playing behind WRs Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks on the depth chart. The 49ers have also had visits with WRs Chaz Schilens and Brandon Lloyd.(NFL.com)
FF Today's Take:The turbulent 2012 offseason continues! For fantasy purposes, Lloyd's meetings with new teams are of greater significance than Manningham's, as the former New York Giant virtually dropped off of the fantasy radar last season with a slew of injuries and inconsistent performances. Lloyd has also reportedly expressed interest in joining the New England Patriots.
Giants re-sign Domenik Hixon-- Fri Mar 2 6:00 pm -- Injury prone veteran to add depth to receiving corps
The New York Giants have re-signed wide receiver Domenik Hixon.
Hixon missed most of last season after surgery on a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. He was hurt making a touchdown catch against the St. Louis Rams in the second week of the season. Contract terms were not immediately available, but Hixon gives the Giants another option if Super Bowl hero Mario Manningham is not re-signed.(Yahoo Sports)
FF Today's Take:Hixon has been about as fragile as a dry leaf in recent years, but has shown tremendous agility and quickness when healthy. He has played in just two games over the past two years and sees time mostly as a kick and punt returner, limiting his fantasy value. Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz will continue to be the Giants' receivers to own in fantasy.
Manningham likely leaving the Giants-- Sun Feb 26 7:00 am -- "75 percent" sure he will be with another team
New York Giants wide receiver Mario Manningham won’t guarantee he will be with the Super Bowl champions this spring.
The Warren Harding High graduate said Friday that he’s "75 percent" sure he’ll sign with another NFL team when free agency begins on March 15. Asked if he has an idea of what might happen, Manningham said, "Yeah," then wisely added, "I ain’t talking about it."(Vindy.com)
